I love a lot of sensei's previous works. Just such a shame this one had to be cancelled before we actually got anywhere conflict wise. Just finished reading the prequel and i'm happy it was so nice and wholesome there. I hope sensei can maybe keep working around this universe in other ways cause i just really gotta know what else they had planned somehow...
Weak ending and i wish the author went with more of a tragic end considering all the build up and atmosphere we got with everything surrounding the mansion at large. The male lead was ignorant, naive and annoying at times, but I really feel like the author could've done more with his child-like obsession with the protag. As for the protag, i wish he anguished even more over the murder, like. Wow they really did just hand wave away a whole ass murder. That investigator literally just left cause they tattled on him to his father?? No going against the law and then following up on this fucked up situation for the sake of justice??? Ok, bye. Idk, I feel silly now for expecting the death to be a Major turning point for drama and angst...
As a fan of 2.5D stage and musical productions, I felt VERY seen in all of this. From the experience to the fandom spaces to even the merch consumption call outs. While I did enjoy these moments as a butai lover, i worry that something within the writing process was lost. As a romance we only got like, 3 kisses total and like 3 hugs as well. I don't know if this is on the author's end cause she just wanted to write a gag manga or something about the very specific Butai Fan Life (was v effective) or like, the editors or some other force making her try to insert in a romance story, but it didn't feel that romance driven at all. Took a passenger's seat to her main oshi.
Idk, I feel complicated... My actor oshi also takes up this much space in my personal life and my headspace but like, I'm aroace so I may be feeling that the protag is as well at least at some end of this spectrum
I'm rambling too much, but it certainly was a fun read...
It somehow feels both slow as hell and lacking of stakes while also just missing any sort of urgency. As someone who is a self-proclaimed connoisseur of trash, this story doesn't fall in the direct trash pile, but it also just isn't outstanding enough to be seen as Mid. This story isn't offensive in any way, i just feel like the author could like, ramp it up a bit. Perhaps a lot.
Despite nothing ever happening, I still come back like an sad, hungry, abused dog.
