Its not really years but yes its taking her life in exchange.. and its also very taxing for her body.. there's really an explanation why.. but i would reveal a huge spoiler so i wont tell.. instead i would say that her using the hour glass save her a lot of times in the future.. although there are times that you'll find her very irritating for depending on the hour glass..

Yeah. In the previous chapters it is shown that after Athy died in the original plot line that Claude collapsed and jeannette freaking out about it. After that her actual dad appeared wearing the kings official clothes
I just binged this in a week and while it is amazing I kinda got tired of hearing about the tea to the point where I semi-skip it.
On a serious note - I second a lot of the comments and really hope she gets pregnant. It took me two and a half years to have my baby so it is possible for her to get pregnant.
