i was genuinely reading just straight up bullshit at 16 caus rereading it now as 22.... this story is so shite. people saying its realistic yes because its an abusive relationship. i wish the mc had gotten therapy instead of going back to that dickhead with major inferiority complex. take a lesson from this story to not date people like yujeong.
the novel really lives up to its title no joke if you love asel you're abt to start hating the seme REAL BAD
im currently reading it myself and im not that far yet but the ml's stoic and apathetic behavior is gna make u hate him bc whilst he's very kind, gentle and IS interested in asel, he also doesn't seem to take the mc's feelings for him too seriously due to their humongous age-gap and socioeconomic status (yada yada). from what ive seen in the reviews take it w a grain of salt, he's going to continue misunderstanding asel like we've seen in the prologue and make asel have a distrust in him lasting throughout the novel during which the ml will continue to prove himself so asel can regain his trust in him. within the next few chapters they're going to spend jinhyeok's rut together and jinhyeok behaves like absolute trash due to how apathetic he behaves.
i forgot to add, the ml isn't a trash seme though. mainly the ml doesn't take mc's feelings for him seriously due to how he's the benefactor right, so he thinks the mc is merely infatuated with him due to him being an orphan w no proper support system, and how young the mc is (naivety). he wants asel very much (absolutely destroys dat uke hole) but simultaneously pushes back and tries to maintain a "distance". ive been thoroughly enjoying both of the characters but if you favour one more than the other, you're bound to hate one of them unless you read this unbiased which is frankly impossible considering its from asel's pov.

for anyone who wants to know if it gets better, especially with the way the ML has been behaving: it does, but it's a very slowburn romance, with extreme angst from Asel's side due to his unrequited love for Jinhyuk + the guilt and regret of spending Jinhyuk's rut together and then asking him to take responsibility. we're nearing the end of volume 2/6 of the novel, and i presume the manhwa will wrap up season 1 soon.
Jinhyuk will retest his vasectomy and the results
will show that it hasn't relapsed, he will contact Wooseok (the other short-term 2nd ML) just in case since there's still a doubt bc Asel is only 3 weeks pregnant (genetic testing is done at 6 weeks) but Wooseok responds very unkindly; Jinhyuk, whilst still having doubts (since Asel said Wooseok was his boyfriend and they slept together — which he regrets) asks for Asel's hand in marriage and for him to move into his house. But before this, he asks Asel multiple times whether he wants to keep this child or not because regardless of whose child it is, having a baby at such a young age as Asel would be difficult for anyone, but Asel mistakes it for suspicion and almost harms himself. Jinhyuk breaks off his marriage, puts a ring onto Asel, apologises + explains his behaviour of why he was so distrustful of Asel, and clear all doubts Asel had been having so far: he's not upset or mad at Asel, he's marrying him because he's responsible for the rut they spent together and doesn't want illegitimate children to suffer like his step-brother did + not repeat what his father had, and that even if the generic testing showed the child to not be his, Jinhyuk would still take responsibility and not make Asel pay any alimony in the case of a divorce.
Obviously Asel is incredibly upset at how everything has ultimately played out all due to his unrequited love that forced him to foolishly visit Jinhyuk during his rut bc had he not, they would've been able to maintain a superficial relationship. but now that this had happened, even though he's marrying the director, it is inevitably a loveless marriage and the guilt and regret gnaws at him: how they don't even share a bed, how the ring only fits his index slightly, how Jinhyuk forcibly controls his pheromones from leaking—he had only come to Jinhyuk in desperation when he found out that he was pregnant; because he had been treated so kindly by the director, Asel felt as if he was the only person he could go to in the case of such an emergency, only to end up like this. Jinhyuk is very much aware of the power imbalance between them due to their circumstances, age difference, the way they had met and their relationship, which is the very reason why he tried not to admit his attraction to Asel and go no contact. Jinhyuk remains a very caring and green flag ML, ex: he firmly refuses to eat anything next to Asel that might trigger his morning sickness and only eats what Asel does.
oh baby
genuinely dont know how im gna continue i almost cried finishing vol 2 but the adaptation has been rly great so far so fingers crossed!
So does it get better than this? Is there a chasing arc? This whole thing sounds miserable.
its so painfully slowburn that its miserable even while im midway through vol 3 (their relationship has improved a lot!) but from the comments apparently there's a chasing arc in vol 4 so i'll keep yall updated when i reach it LOL i feel like salt heart will run just like beyond memories (another great read, i recommend it!)
ive read a bit further and this is going to be one hell of a ride. chasing arc near end of vol 4, almost divorce/separation arc in vol 5 before they get back together again its going to be real melodramatic, angsty and messy
Oh my goodness yesss keep us updated and I LOVED beyond memories it was peak!!!! Thank you so much for responding and I love a good slow burn ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
yay, ofc <3 i'm so glad you liked beyond memories as well, the novel rly tore me apart! such a good read <3
