Gonna read this, because the art is great and I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE actually masochistic mcs, but I really hate the storytelling of the first chapter!! Flashback on a flashback??!?! Introducing Eli three times over???? It just feels confusing!!
I understand that they have to put smut in the first chapter, but starting the episode on it, only to do a flashback, only for it to go back to smut on the last minute feels so pointless.
And I understand that the rest of the story will be 100% better and that most BL manhwas these days have to start this way, but it suuuuuuuuck. IT SUCKS ASSSSSSSS!! Give me time to feel the tension between them, give me a moment to wonder if they recognize each other. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. AND I KNOW! I KNOW NO ONE CARES. I know no one goes on nhentai and critiques the pacing of the fucking-my-friend's-mum storyline. But I do...!!! I care....!! I know that if in the mid-point the story slowed down, then the tension would make the climax (in your friend's mum) more satisfying!!!!!! I care....!!!!!!
You're so real for this! I care and I agree! Not all smut material is Porn without Plot, so it's fine to have standards for storytelling even in erotica.
And even if it wasn't, you're still allowed to have a preference
But yeah, I'm so tired of the "in-the-middle-of-sex" hooks, because it just makes people more impatient and care less about the plot cause all they want is for the story to catch up to the sex scene.
(It's the equivalent of a movie opening with "*Record scratch* I bet you're wondering how I got here."
Like is this meant to be Corny or Porny? Pick ONE. /J)
And some stories that open up that way tend to grind to a halt because they didn't plan anything past The scene.
I have to say this, because it's on my mind since chapter one, but the fashion in this is god awful. I'm not even really complaining !! Like it's certainly more interesting to look at than some safer choices. But the colors, the way the fabric is layered or how it sits on the body (especially the dresses) is just ugly
That’s the vibe I got. The overall aesthetics actually give a more historically medieval vibe compared to complete fantasy. Not saying it’s totally accurate, not at all, just that it gives that vibe. Definitely a bit of fresh air considering how many fantasy series tend to follow the same fashion ideas.
Agreed. I'm so tired of reading stories that are supposed to be medieval and women are all wearing pencil skirts while men are wearing suits... lol Like, people had ridiculous sense of fashion, I get that, but we modernize the clothes too much makes the Magick go away, you know? I agree that it's a fresh air that we are missing from other stories.
I do agree with you guys, but my problem wasn't the historic fashion haha. Guys got poofy shorts on top of thighs? Awesome. Dumbass white wig? Love that. Odd silhouettes of historical dresses? That's my jam!!!
It is the "modern" clothes that I have an issue with. Like while side characters are allowed to look funny with the odd historical clothes, the main ones are clearly going for something different.
The main character's vest and coat look too big on him, and they don't make an appealing silhouette together. The zigzag pattern looks stupid, but more in a "sci-fi fashion" way, than any attempt to imitate historical fashion. I find that the colors also clash a bit, but that's a personal preference.
The maid's dress is what inspired me to finally write this comment. That lilac doesn't go with her red vibe at all. It was supposed to sit on her loosely like silk, but the way it was bunched up on top made it look like poorly sewn cotton.
I'm not a prude, so I don't care if all the female characters have big boobs in tight tops, but a lot of the dresses just aren't working. To the point where maybe a historically accurate corset and dress would accentuate the curves better than whatever silky revealing top they have on.
Thank you all for coming to my old-man-yelling-at-cloud hour.
I took a second look at their outfits and honestly I still disagree with you, but it’s a point of opinion. I’ve seen dresses like hers, where the top is bunched and that’s the intention, whereas the bottom is the smooth part. It’s not my personal cup of tea, but I’ve seen enough designs like that. Personally I’d just raise the sleeves a little, but that’s about it. The lilac and red also doesn’t clash that heavily imo, especially with the white of her hair.
Personally I just don’t see what you’re seeing, ain’t nothing wrong with that though. I personally enjoyed his outfit as well.
I'm sorry, I just don't understand why it was necessary to handle this plot point so clumsily. Our male lead is a serial killer, we can handle the protagonist being a bad older sister.
It makes no sense for him to want to stay with his aunt, if he clearly saw her hit his sister. It is completely unnecessary to make him so cruel to her and so unforgiving.
I don't need him to be a perfect victim, but the author is clearly framing this in a way, that makes the brother's resentment nonsensical.
I promise we would've been able to handle it, if she left her brother behind without a second thought.
I promise we would've been able to handle it, if she hit him for something less hurtful.
It's so fucking weird, because there's all the ingredients to a morally and emotionally complicated story??? Like if I was writing this, the obvious take would be that the brother resents his sister for the neglect that facilitated the sexual abuse. But if he never wanted to be around her in the first place, then he's just pissy because she hit him once when they were kids. It doesn't make the protagonist kinder, it makes her duller.
"My sister, who I loved and relied on, was too busy studying ((to make a better life for us)), not knowing I needed her then to protect me and I resent her because her independence cost me my childhood."
is just better than
"My bitch ass demon sister hit me one time, so now I want nothing to do with her and I'd rather stay with my abusive aunt. I wish she died with our parents."
Yeah the story has all the ingredients but fails because it’s essentially protecting the mc as a ‘rightful’ person who’s being wronged by those around her
I legitimately thought she did something egregious to her brother, like he opened up about abuse and she shut it down. The author has made his entire personality anger and hurt a mess that doesn’t make sense, because his older sister hasn’t actually done anything wrong
That exists in real life too but it feels just…incomplete here. And because this abuse is secondary to the main story which is our male lead and his obsessions, it feels like just a not so well thought out addition to add to the ‘problems’ around the female lead
Then again our male lead also feels incomplete in that sense. I love that this story is unique but the author doesn’t flesh it out well. It’s a bunch of blocky story points or character tropes

I'll say this and it might be a hot take, but if she actually accepts the proposal among witnesses, it won't make me sympathize with her, it'll make me dislike her. She seems really clever and strong, but difficult decisions are define a character.
Author can pick between a more dramatic development and a more fateful reflection of her character and I hope they pick the second option.
I don't think she's going to accept the proposal just because she said it'll be her last social. So we don't have to worry about that.
