I am actually quite surprised with the flow of the comments. There is so much work out there that get so much love for nothing, like even the bad ones. Which makes me think that the community must be quite forgiving if they can bypass such issues and enjoy the work regardless.
I don't see that here. Everything is being nitpicked on in the comments and I am sensing negative energies.

I feel like the manga is being very misunderstood.
The story actually goes into different depths despite being the classic omegaverse. The MC works in the field about these alphas&omegas despite being beta. He was looking at everything from a third party point of view almost his whole life, he was in a place that perceived and could safely judge as it didn't involve him in any way. He comfortably formed his own opinions about it throughout his life. It's like how you can laugh or cry about someone's misfortune but you won't really be affected because it's not really your issue to deal with. But then he is thrown in the same situation and that's what I find so interesting to look at. He is still trying to uphold what he stands by but also starts to realize that it is easier said than done. He is also being very stubborn about it, that's why despite his feelings being elsewhere than his reasoning, he keeps overworking his brain constantly. Just look at the contrast of the ML and the MC, it's just so meaningful.

Anyways I could go on longer trying to defend the story but let me just lastly talk about the R*pe topic.
Are you serious?? Yes it happened very quickly but that is the point, it didn't happen within their control. In that moment they were BOTH horny animals okay? Aren't we all sometimes?
It just symbolised the irrationally we humans have. That's what happened to them and then after how they dealt it with was within the reason and neither was it brushed off. They self reflected, even brought up lawsuit, constantly feeling bad for each other even though they already closed it. That was also one of the main core reasons as to how the story started developing, they started on the bad foot, both living different lifes.

I agree The contrast between the characters is really good. With their age, too! The top has just gotten his prefrontal cortex fully formed at 26 and the uke had his rationale with him for almost 10yrs. And so aside from all the differences you've stated, I think it's great that they have the option to suppress or pursue their fated-pair instincts.

And when the uke said he's an old man, I understand haha you really feel it when you're in the presence of much younger people Oh, I liked that he's older as well. Since Alphas are portrayed like they're all that, his age gave him a bit more power.

The r*pe was discussed and never brushed off, and that's really great. You see the top saying sorry and wanting to take responsibility immediately, and the uke was shown to think about the incident like he's not sure if he can call himself a victim if he felt good. These are extremely well thought plot points since it gives the characters more humanness.

I like that I get to see them struggle with the thought of fate in a pharmacologically advanced society where everything and anything can be suppressed. And even with all the uke's rationalizing (since he's a pharmacist), he still struggling to shake fate off. As for the top, I liked that we get to see him break down and cry without regard to the time and place. Just imagine that you find your THE ONE, and he straight up says NOPE without even exploring whatever it is that you can build together? He even wonders if he's unattractive!

And the uke as a beta-turned-omega made a good MC since he's allowed to change his preconceived perceptions along with his body. He was able to make a life for himself without being shackled by societal biases on the secondary genders only because he was a beta. I just can't with all the omega hate. Why? Is it because they're mostly portrayed as economically challenged? Weak? Powerless? Are they only good enough when you get to see two males have cute babies?

For what it's worth, I hope we read stories for what they are, with a bit more empathy and comprehension, too! (≧∀≦)

Just to add, if I could make pairing requests... I would love to see more beta-omega pairs defying the odds and I wish we have more stories of omega MCs that are truly integrated into society, full-fledged professionals like our MC here

I agree, there's so many bad stories out there why are you all nitpicking this fine work it's actually really good just how it is now.
I'm actually really inpatient for the next chapter ( ̄ε(# ̄)Σ

The way the author paces story is the same way I make up my tropey fictions in my head at 2AM without any rhyme or reason. So this is what it looks like when it comes to life

I actually had a familiar concept in mind. Guy A(seme) is the typical prince like popular guy and is really nice to girls in general. One day he meets this kind quiet girl and forms a crush on her. After a quick asking around he manages to find her surname and vaguely the location of her shoe locker. After days of contemplation and overthinking he finally finishes the love letter he plans on giving her. The next day he braces up and in hurry puts the letter in a locker that he thinks should be her’s. To his surprise the next morning he finds a note in his shoe locker that stated rendezvous time at the rooftop after school with the girl’s surname signed at the bottom right corner. All anxious and excited as he couldn’t wait to talk to his crush after school but at the same time he was scared of her reply. The clock is ticking by and Guy A plans to get there ahead of time but is unfortunately delayed by duties given to him. He then sprints with all his might to the rooftop, and stops in front of the person waiting there. Guy A with hands on his knees trying to catch his breath, his head apologetically facing down says: “I’m sorry for coming this late even though I am the one that confessed to you, but I really mean every word in the letter I wrote. My feelings for you are genuine. I really like you! Would you please go out with me?” with that said he lifts his head. To his demise in front of him wasn’t the girl of his dreams but a scowling guy with wrinkled eyebrows and cold eyes staring daggers at him. Guy A freezes up and thinks “I-Is that perhaps her boyfriend?? Is he here to beat me up because of the letter?? Oh no, I don’t think I can beat him but-“ cutting off his thoughts Guy B(uke) replies a quiet almost inaudible mumbled answer: ”Yes...” knowing it didn’t come out right so he repeats it again a bit louder and renders Guy A completely speechless. A defeaning silence surrounds them and Guy B gets a bit nervous from it and thinks hard “W-What should I do. Oh no, why isn’t he saying anything...what to do..did I say it wrong?..oh r-right, the movie I watched last night, the female lead went and kissed him instead of replying. Maybe I should do that, yes yes I should do that. buutt....urgh I can’t believe I fight against guys with knifes but can’t even bring myself to get closer to him...whatever whatever, here goes nothing!” and then he gets closer to Guy A in unhurried long strides. He tilts his head a bit and closes the the gap between their lips. In contrast to his confident looking actions, he only gives Guy A a shy kiss on the lips that was almost as short as a peck on the cheek, but just nearly. As he slowly draws back he gives Guy A a slight smile whilst saying “Yes, I would love to go out with you.”

The second male lead is dashing, but look at him, he has no sense of birdsonal space. I don’t ship!

I read many manga/manhua/webtoons kr/jp/cn novels and I can’t seem to recall a really really good romance in these type of stories. It’s always the trope of ML that has a harem and everyone likes him or this one girl that likes him (either from the start or a little bit later on) because he saved her/he is dense to his popularity. Then he either ends up with all of them or one of them. And when that happens it feels like he is forced into the relationship. I never get feel of “Gosh, he genuinely loves her.” It’s not cool to have the ML being a simp but at the same time when they they have the trope of being dense it just goes: FL likes him -> He doesn’t notice -> He does something unknowingly -> FL gets angry -> He gets eventually guilt-tripped into liking her.
The FL could be a character every reader loves but when the romance kicks in, they just write her like that. What is mutual love? What is respect? Can you eat that?
Solo leveling (i only read the webtoon, I stopped myself from reading WN) seems the closest I am looking for so far. It to also have the trope of ML saving the FL and so on but she is at least not forcing her feelings on him, like she knows he doesn’t like her, but she respects that and try to make him like her back and I ship it.

What do you think? Am I the only one missing a romance done right in these types of stories? Or do you know any recommendations that might have what I am looking for?

I have a quick question, there is something slightly unclear to me. When the best friend said ‘by getting rid of the creeps’. Did it seem to you like he means he tried to at least keep him away from some creepy people (creeps) that uke slept with and they bothered him later on? That’s how I understood it at first. But the panel of the best friend standing amidst others and the way how seme got mad after he left. Made me rethink whether the best friend meant that at the very least he did his best to keep his creeps regards uke’s orientation or condition at bay in consideration of their friendship and the fact that he was initially the one responsible for him being so. What do you think?

    Maybeblue June 18, 2021 9:04 am

I think it's the first one you mentioned. There's nothing suggesting that sosuke's condition somehow repulsed his best friend and the fact that Sosuke often says that he felt indebted to him because he stayed by his side and took care of him may include the best friend keeping an eye on him to avoid Sosuke to get involved with creeps
