Imo, it’s just fiction so a bit of toxicity, obsession & jealousy spices up the plots. For entertainment & diversity of storylines — this is the most justified reasoning I can could think of, BUT, let’s make it clear that all this shouldn’t apply for real life.
Now ML impregnating MC is quite a stretch, leaves a bad taste for me. However, it does give the story a twist & an opportunity for a good intense chasing/remdeption arc tbh. If only the author spinned it right which they haven’t to this point, MC just kinds of puts up with it given the power imbalance circumstance … I’d like to see MC challenges ML’s authority & conscience, makes him regret everything he did to MC (character development), makes him yearn & have to work hard to earn back MC’s trust (redemption)…etc.
I want Kay to be the Duke’s downfall/karma, brings him to his knees
I do think ML does have feelings for MC, but so far it’s still quite surface-leveled, stopping at obsessiveness & possesiveness. I like to believe there’s more to be unpacked, because the Duke does show many moments where he softens when it comes to Kay (a peculiar man with power wouldn’t soften over just anyone unless they actually have feelings for that person imo).
In hindsight, may we all meet someone who loves us so much they yearn like SeoIn…SeoIn’s yearning lowkey changed my view on love, and he’s literally just a fictional character.

I stumbled across this 6-7 years ago when I just started out with BL. Old yaoi has an unexplainable kind of depth.

I agree with you. After digesting so many new/modern ones, many are great but so many are really not well-plotted / shallow / rushed / mediocre. I’m now looking for BL pieces with more depth in them.
Old yaoi usually have a lot more emotions being delivered into them , actual storylines and their aura is so real.

Phew, i’m glad we feel the same. It’s in the details for me, he’s so clueless & isn’t practical (doesn’t cook & literally eats instant noodles everyday, seems like he isn’t used to cooking). If he came from a rough background you’d think he’d be more used to finding a job & cooks at home to save money.

If only Subin could turn the tables and snatch Junghoon away from Hyungjae… I feel like Subin is a very capable character with potential and background to be developed further according to the side chapters showing Subin having feelings + loyalty for Junghoon, this could’ve added more depth and plot twists to the entire storyline. Subin has good intuition & is often aware of the surrounding politics, he’s also not too emotionally eager like both Junghoon and Hyunjae. Subin x Junghoon would’ve been a good & intense slow burn. The suspension comes from Subin struggling between remaining loyal and staying by Junghoon’s side as support, or trying to win Junghoon’s heart so he can be closer to him and protect him even more.
It would also serve as karma for Hyunjae for his despicable behavior—having to watch the person he has always been obsessed with fall into someone else’s hands.
Junghoon would truly be protected and well- supported by Subin. Together they can gain more leverage & power in the gangster world, and become a badass sidekick-lover duo.
Letting Hyungjae have everything makes the storyline feel a bit flat to me. It would feel more meaningful if Subin overcame all the obstacles and dirty schemes for Junghoon, and Junghoon—after enduring everything Hyunjae put him through—became clear-headed and realized Subin’s love, loyalty, and devotion (instead of being a push-over and manipulated by Hyunjae).
Well said, and even from the last of MC we see that he have regretted his decision as well as excepted his fate for not trusting him and slowly waiting for his death. I really feel bad for both of them, Atleast Subin should get a last chance to talk to him
