(This is not 100% related, but…)
I’m also tired of the ”I’m only gay for you” stories that’s just the person making an exception to their still quite homophobic views (that anything other than heterosexual is something shameful, strongly not wanting to identity with anything else), instead of ”you taught me about a type of love I didn’t know I could feel andI also want is to be with you” (or sum lol). I understand there’s complexity in feeling like you’ve made your partner ”stray” from the ”normal” way, but if it’s never addressed it doesn’t make the story deeper, rather more shallow. If the partner always stick to ”I’ve made an exception for you which shows how much I love you” they’re just implying they’ve made some kind of sacrifice (solely for the other persons sake and not taking accountability for that they want to be with them too). That they’ve made some noble sacrifice and the other person should be greatful for what they get.

and honestly fr, thats also kinda my thoughts on the “gay for you” trope. i know sexuality is a spectrum and sometimes exploration happens, and that’s ok, but it’s prevalence in BL is sometimes off-putting. i think it could be deeper if that internalized homophobia was explored (esp since most BL comes out of countries that are culturally conservative), but i don’t know if publishers find that marketable in BL. i guess it depends on the author/artist.
