See... I've read plenty of manhwas where the ML is genuinely a bad person. The difference is that those stories are self-aware. The author doesn't pretend the ML's actions are okay, they're written as harmful, and the narrative treats them that way
My issue isn't that this story has a flawed or toxic ML. In fact, I enjoy those kinds of stories when they're written well.
My problem is that this story *doesn't seem to realize* how harmful some of the ML's behavior is. The sexual coercion in the earlier chapters is brushed aside, and it feels like the story expects the reader to see it as cute, romantic and wholesome. The MC is the one who ends up apologizing, while the ML never really properly acknowledges that what he did was wrong :[
To me, it feels like the author treats harmful behavior as inherently romantic without giving the MC's feelings the weight they deserve. Instead of properly addressing what happened, the story quickly moves on to comedy and wholesome cute moments as if nothing significant happened It bothers me how the MC is being treated as the jerk and had to be the one to apologize...
And before anyone says, "Well, it's not meant to be toxic!" that's exactly my point. If the author *didn't* intend for it to be toxic, then the coercive scenes become even more jarring because the narrative doesn't seem to recognize them as harmful. That's what put me off the story
this was a VERY good read but something felt missing, especially with the lack of emotions in the facial expressions! but i love how much anxiety i get while reading this LOL i also love that the MC actually left him after gaining his memories instead of forgiving his shit straight up
either way, i feel like this could be a fantastic read if we had ML's pov and if the expressions were expressed properly
Yeah the novel showed more details and the descriptions were painfully sad. After MC died, ML discovered the truth, felt guilty and regret so so much bc he bonded with MC so all of MC's memories/emotions were felt by him too. ML abandoned his works, had nightmares...then as we already knew, he committed suicide not long after MC died. He was desperate for a second chance to make it right
Tbh most of the novel-to-manhwa adaptations aren't 100% perfects. Especially if the novel has very long-details writing so it's quite hard for the manhwa adaptation. (Not to mention some manhwas do really skip a lot of parts )
The art is good but I do agree the facial expressions didn't quite do the justice
But tbh, I am satisfied with how things turned out.
Even if they didn’t really out into detail Ido’s regrets and emotional suffering, the fact that in this manhwa, it took out goat MC more than 10 chapters to fully forgive hin is quite satisfying, compared to other manhwas with slop doormat MC’s who literally just forgives after 1 sorry and 1-2 chapters.
But not my pookie Saejin
Lol I agree with Sejin but I think I understand why Ido took his life too... Sejin's pov is no joke, it's really painful. It's been a long time since I read the novel but his monologue when he killed himself in front of Ido still remains in my mind. It's something like:
"Will you be able to live well (after I died)? I hope not. I don't need you to regret, but I want you to not forget me. I dont want to hurt you, but at least I want to remain as a memory. If I had a wish, it was be loved. If I could start over, I wish someone would tell me how. If I do something wrong, I wish to be forgiven. This time, I wanted to live without being abandoned."
Yeah I remember that line…
Makes me tear up again…
Btw, in the manhwa, after the company dinner, when Sejin and Ido were about to have sex.
Sejin remembered the bastard who raped him.
So he then asked why Ido—even after knowing Sejin was raped and battered, did the same to him.
Ido didn’t really answer in the manhwa, so I was wondering if the novel actually gave an answer.
Since it’s a big deal… why would Ido rape Sejin even after knowing that he was raped but that sick ass brother.

boutta be the craziest angst
