One of my major icks that I think a lot of people can agree with is unnecessary rape, like of all rape is bad but if it used as a way to actually progress the story I think most people can sit through with it, as long as its not sexualised

Idk about others but one of my personal icks are when characters have no personality outside them being gay, like their whole motivation is "omg I'm gay and I want a bf" it's just bland and often makes the character so 1 dimensional. However if their sexuality cause them issue, for example internalised homophobia or discrimination that in my opinion makes the story so much more interesting as it is a real thing most people can relate too (me included lol)

As for what I would want to see more of it would probably be realistic depictions of a homosexual relationship, I think a lot of authors usually just look at other bls for source material instead of gay people and it can be quite obvious. Things such as not using condoms, no lube or prep before hand and of the feminization of the bottom. While yes some bottoms can be quite feminine and soft I think it's important to recognise that they are still men. It would be nice to see bottoms actually enjoying traditional male activities such as football and fishing (idk lol ig fishing is manly) just because it can actually show depth behind a character outside of just 'oh he's the bottom cause he's small and feminine'

Small other things that I feel are enjoyable in bls are having representation in supporting cast, Ik it's cliche but a lesbian support character can go a long way. I also like it when characters love each other for some reason other then looks, although love at first sight is cute I think building a genuine relationship over time is cuter (especially if it's a slow burn)

Sorry for the legit essay, I'm just glad to see another writer on here! I write small stories in my free time so I love seeing someone else get into story telling

i think dnmei stories do a pretty decent job at showing characters that are well rounded and not just 'gay'. seconly, i don't like rape/coercion/SA in stories. thirdly, overly feminized bottoms. well, fuck that. i don't like top/bottom dynamic that much, yes it's good. lovely. but can we stop pretending all gay dudes are strict top or strict bottoms? gimme a vers couple. and not coerced to be vers, js genuinely, "im in a mood to bottom for you today" vers. also, i don't fw wierd age gaps, and even wealth status. wierd power imbalances that feels very trope-y. not a fan. it's ok if it is so happens but not a fan when it's deliberately a story plot. fourth, adding to power imbalances, one of them being a manwhore other being a blushing virgin. like, why stories need one of them to be a virgin?!?! i dont understand. if they're old enough characters, make both of them experienced. if they're young, make them virgin. no need for them to be fucking since they were like 13 lmao. if it is a part of story and significant, sure. but if it's js there to be there, nah. fifth, normal characters. not all of them need to look baddie/diva/model. they can be normal looking as well. sixth, adding to that, 10 pack abs 24/365. like, not everyone is a fucking lingerie model. i guess we can give men a bit more, scars, strech marks, moles/beauty marks...etc(heck, even vitiligo skin rep can be there), and can make them a bit chubby/lanky/ not too "built". normal bodies. that's what i'd like. and a story which is not too focused on js being gay gay gay all the time. maybe yeah, if that's what the premise ur going for them fine. (like gay coming of age story) sometimes story js happens to have gay characters. (lmao to me jjk is a BL bc half them characters fruity or on the queer spectrum but it's a shonen, them being queer is js a character trait and doesn't do anything much in story progression)
