Tldr: I genuinely just hate the mom
I get that shes trying, but this woman HORRIBLY ABSUED HER CHILD AND SOLD HER OFF in the first life, and in the second she still abused her then all of a sudden did a 180 and expects complete love and trust from her daughter.
Realistically (I know this is fictional but let me vent) a child's personality is developed between birth and around 5yrs. Meaning that whatever they experience in that time frame is what shapes them as people. Lily is a literal saint or an angel from the heavens because any other child would be beyond terrified, distrusting and ANGRY at this woman as they rightfully should be!
But now shes trying to buy back her kids love. Notice how shes not spending time with her and leaving her to attendants, friends or her cousin. Yes shes royalty now and trying to "do what needs to be done for the plot" but the point of this was to build a better life for her daughter who she only interacts with if shes in danger or going against what she expects.
And the "secret past??" Really? Its just you ABUSING your child and the reason youre scared about that getting out is bc everyone loves her and you know the moment thats exposed you're getting your ass beat to hell as you rightfully deserve.
Anyways thats my rant I understand if you dont agree but these are my personal feelings have a great day or night if you managed to read to the end of this
honestly i completely understand how u feel.. i try to keep a nuanced view of her bc i know she suffered immensely as a child/young adult and she's changed and genuinely regrets everything, and because of that i can't say that i hate her. but u actually pointed out something i didn't even notice, which was that she doesn't actually spend much time with lyrica--in fact i think she spends way more time with the emperor (which i guess makes sense given the plot motive u mentioned and the fact that they're married and basically co-run the empire).
Thank you for your respectful input and not coming after me I appreciate it
Her own childhood is why many are hesitant to hate her as well, which is understandable. That being said, everyone has a story and everyone has some sort of trauma. That does not mean you are justified in being a horrible person and parent. You are not responsible for what you went through, but you are responsible for how you let that shape you.
Ive know people who have gone through hell and back and have become the most amazing parents and people ever precisely BECAUSE they never want their families to know that kind of pain. And they show up for them every time no matter what.
So to summarize yes I understand wanting to give leniency bc of her past, but also shes a grown adult with a child who she should have taken responsibility for or at the very least allowed for the shoes shiner to adapt her to give her a better life
no i completely agree w everything u said here. i realize my reply was trying to find explanations for her behavior bc i didn't want to look at her one-sidedly, but no matter what explanations there are, none of them excuse her behavior. it's frustrating bc she COULD have this development if the narrative didn't treat her like she already did all she possibly could have to be a great mother...
