Sometimes it works. Sometimes it don't. In this case.... It's hella boring. I read slow-life because it's interesting to see what the characters will do with their day or week. This? It's a slow trudge coz nothing about their characters truly stand out. I was hoping for something that makes them charming or even a bit unique but nothing stood out to me.
Is that nobody seems to find it right to stand up for themselves. Like how FL just lets this woman talk down at her. And make no mistake. She might have meant well but she does talk down to the FL. There is sense to what she says but the no rebuttal from FL's side rubs me off the wrong way.
ML too is silent about issues. Both took 5 steps forward and 10 steps back. Insecurities abound because it's a new stage to their relationship but what works in novels doesn't necessarily work in comic form. Too draggy and though it works plot-wise, I feel like the story suffers for it.
Mind you, the manhwa version of this is said to be heavier than the novel as it dives into the characters more than the written version but I wish it was paced better. Ironically, what I find interesting character-wise would have worked better in the novel. It's like it got confused and switched mediums.
I'm not sure I'm saying it right but I just can't forget what I learned in one of my writing classes back in uni. Narrative is heavily reliant in your medium. A book is effective in ways a movie isn't and vice versa. That goes the same in different mediums. Audio books, comics, podcasts, animation, etc. That small tidbit is what takes me out in enjoying this sometimes.
It almost feels like the author is rehashing their moment from Playtime with Hakdo. Nothing alike in character, mind you. But the hair and height difference makes me remember that one. Not that I'm complaining. The artist has upped their game a whole ton since.
With the words The End putting a final close to the story.... lemme just say this......
That black haired '2nd ML' is the most annoying piece of shit I've ever read. Some 2nd MLs have charm. Some seem better than ML even. But, here? His 'affection' for her wasn't cute. AT ALL. Tbh, he gave me the creeps. He's so clingy towards her and so obnoxious about his feelings that there was nothing endearing about his character. If you're someone who likes him...then I'm sorry. I just wanted to say my piece. He's a piece of shit for being so damn persistent even though the main couple was in a very healthy, and mutually loving relationship.
Ok... I'll go and touch grass now.
