It's to break those chains and patterns to make your children's lives better and easier for them to navigate. Children are to be cherished and loved. as an asian, i hated it when my parents "physically disciplined" me and "physically disciplined" me again when i refused to eat dinner bc they didn't even bother apologizing for losing their cool. i hated it then and i hate it even now when i get reminded of it. even if it's "for their own good", how heartless can you be if you can raise your hand on a small child? and don't give me that "i grew up like that and turned out just fine" bullshit bc a lot of us grew up like that and did NOT turn out okay. when we say "asian parent things", it's meant as a dark joke, not an attempt at normalizing "physical disciplining". some of my friends grew up without getting hit for making mistakes, crying for long and throwing temper tantrums. i wonder how they didn't "become spoiled brats" and turned out fine. do you know how envious i felt when they told me that their parents never hit them? stop making excuses for why you weren't able to suppress your anger and frustration and calmly explain "what" the child's mistake was and "why" it was a mistake. just bc kids "live under your roof and live off your money" (which is the bare minimum a child should expect from their parents bc they were the ones who decided to raise them) doesn't mean that they have to suffer for your lack of patience and tolerance.

I'm in the same boat. I definitely inherited my mom's anger management issues and I lost so much of my childhood to abuse that I am 100% sure that I would end up resenting any children I would have.
The best thing that can happen for me is me not being able to procreate.
