Narratively speaking I have never been a huge fun of soulmate au and its variation (including nameverse) because there’s just something beautiful about going against fate. So this premise definitely draws me in because it deals heavily from the negative implication of a nameverse
In a way the ML who has everything doesn’t understand MC whose only joy out of his life is piano. At the same time I completely understand ML’s POV, being forced to engage in sexual act in someone you don’t feel attracted to is straight up a horror scenario in any other setting, frankly.
So I really enjoy the slow progress overtime of the mc’s recovery, and even if there’s no affection, it’s clear since the second “therapy session” the ML is at least physically attracted to the MC so it feels less painful. With so many emotional hungups and trauma between the two of them, I wonder how their romance will progress. Probably beyond reason and the pain, I can’t live without you anymore?
Looking forward to see how the story unfolds and for the official translation to catch up!
What kpop boygroup do you guys think about when you read Debut or Die? I know there’s no specific group referenced in particular but I can’t help but ponder
Maybe because I grew up watching exo, so I keep thinking about the love me right + growl music videos vibe while reading the double-single debut arc. And thinking abt Moondae’s strong vocal reminds me of Baekhyun
Would love to know what you guys are thinking while reading this so I can watch more mv haha
yeaa I get what you mean hahaha. In terms of attitude, I think one thing Moondae and Baekhyunie at least have in common is their tendency to keep up with social media and trends lol. Personality-wise, I think Eugene reminds me more of Baek though since he’s so silly off-stage but sooo hot and eye-catching on-stage.
monster Baekhyun was a cultural reset fr (my faves are 161202 and 170119 because he just looked so breathtaking imo). Honestly, I personally can’t choose between him, Unfair Baekhyun (Santa ver.), Obsession Baekhyun, Ko Ko Bop Baekhyun, and Lotto Baekhyun… he is just way too fineee! and he does so well no matter the concept~
Hahaha I heard that they call Baekhyun a genius idol, that also reminds me of Moondae. And yep ko ko bop mullet Baekhyun was a vision!
Yeah I can’t really think of a truly nonchalant idol that I know of xD and you’re right about Cha Eugene’s similarity haha
I was replaying exo top hits all week long during my internship because of this webtoon! I wished I was into exo during their Hit Era but at that time I was a huge BTS fan xD so it felt a little like betrayal. But nevertheless Baekhyun and Kai always catch my eyes
I hate it when a writer is more talented than me … And yes that includes marry Shelley who wrote Frankenstein at 19. Haha but jokes aside this writer has such an enviable skill. They are soo adept at understanding the mechanics behind both the idol industry and in Gsgw like the mechanics behind ghost story … like the range dude?? Holy shit. It’s crazy. And both webnovel have pretty serious premise you know? But the almost parody nature of the whole thing at times really brings a lot of comedy to the entire novel. And I also have to give huge credits to the people adapting the webtoon because while the webnovel is great maybe bc things are just lost in translation sometimes … I feel that the adapters are the one doing the carry. Esp for a horror story and an idol story you do NEED a visual guide, it’s not just your regular (self insert) romance story where you can just use your own imagination
Bravo to both the writer and the webtoon adapter!!
It could have been another rich guy x poor guy or puppy x cat story but no the author just had to make layers on top. I even bookmark their kiss scenes because the chemistry leading up to that was something I had to take note of as a writer. I also like how in the beginning of the acquaintances they are so polite for each other but at around 50 chapter mark basically seoan’s personality came out LOL I also really like that line where he said: don’t you know how much efforts I had to do to get us here? Definitely taking that page for my own dating life. That line also echoes a conversation earlier with Yohan - sometimes in relationship you have to act “impolite” to get what you want because staying stagnant indicates that you’re ok with the current state of things! Banger line
I know it’s going to be a happy ending but I can’t predict how it’s gonna end yet
and I love how their “strengths” also becomes their flaw! Like being the ceo trope typical assertive type of seoan can makes his partner feel small/too controlled (often not explored in manhwa), and how woowon’s softheartedness becomes borderline pushover behavior. Like of course they love each other but do they love each other despite what other people said and the weaknesses in their personality is the ultimate test. When they were getting together this aspect was less obvious but once they became a couple a lot of things try to break them up - I’d say this is a pretty realistic depiction of romance lol art imitates life
Not a huge fan of their sex scenes tbh my favorite are the emotionally charged types I feel pity for seoan because woowon likes it rough
Someone already said that sometimes the most unhinged people are the “normal” unmedicated people. The MC sarang makes me really swing widely between empathy and horror (at her behaviors) - a hallmark of a good psychological thriller. I love how the mother refers to her expert manipulation skill as the devil power (that shall not be used). I think a better translation would smoothen out her last conversation with Jinwon. Something is definitely seriously wrong with him - but to what extent? The obsession with keeping up perfect image. The nonchalance of throwing away dead kittens. The brushing off against her having put her dead mom in a fridge. Sarang think he’s just like her. But maybe not exactly at the same time?
I’m so curious about his plot - will his character arc be one where his “crazy” is revealed too? (Ie Corruption arc?)

All the trigger warnings have been delivered by the hot game developer in the first chapter … readers be warned
Okay I have to say … I’m just like men when I see Dia on the screen I zoomed in. Other than the banger art, I’m actually just really enjoying Dia herself as a game tester contrary to others’ opinions I think she can be quite clever - definitely not the in your face type of intelligence but it shows more through her observations. I think the only time she’s cooked is when she’s faced by the choices lmao but so far I’ve been enjoying the story through her narration
The male lead choices are quite interesting - it’s really just a story for people who enjoy yandere love interests (even I didn’t know i can enjoy yandere story). So far the MLs has been predictable what is not is the sudden deaths/assasinations because before these bad ending occurs even personally for me Dia has taken the more “reasonable route”
I think this is a pretty good adaptation to the original because the in game logic is explained quite well and the chapters don’t feel choppy
