The people have applauding cos ml ml (younger and top) has been hinting that he is a virgin (literally risking his life to keep his chastity) and have been pining and yearning for the mc (older and bottom) to accept his love and see the ml more than a child. So it shows that he is loyal to the mc. But ppl are so quick to denounce ml’s feelings and efforts to betrayal because apparently he has a harem. And that equates to cheating/ betrayal to the ml. (Also cos it happens that during the harem intro ml is busy with official duties and he has been “neglectful” to ml godforbid ml actually does his responsibilities) a harem that is obviously for political purposes as many of them are princess and prince, sons and daughters of noble families, with no other purpose to the ml but to strengthen his very fragile political standing.

1. The wholesome story has weird father son fanservice. Imo it's very hard to ignore the fanservice. If I could, I wouldnt have dropped it. 2. Readers around you are into it. If you're not into it, you will be surrounded by people who do.
