What is everyone’s opinion on gender bending? I was on ao3 recently and found a good Superbat fic with reasonable tags only to read a bit and realise the author changed Batman to a woman but left superman as a man. I personally really hate this. It feels kinda homophobic but I want to hear other people’s opinions
i'm not against the entirety of genderbending, but when it's done to only one character in a ship, it just feels kinda pointless. for example, if there's a hetero ship that's genderbent, sure, it's fun to see that (e.g. ada and leon). the same goes for homo ships too. but switching up just one of 'em feels more like a self-centred fetishised ideal.

Agree, it's giving heteronormativity. I get Rule 63 is a thing, but there's absolutely no reason to genderbend an already queer ship unless it's from m/m to f/f and vice versa. If it becomes m/f, it feels like homophobia disguised as a trope.
