why would tod kill all the sheeps??? and why the owner knew him from the start??
Because he’s the devil. Lives to corrupt humans. And God knows what he is-which can be seen when he tells Dennis not to trust anything-not referring to a person or thing as Satan can take on many forms.
The plot is Dennis being tested by God. His story parallels the one with Even and the garden of Eden.
The test is choice between obedience to God or self willed desire.
Boss-god
John- apostle
Dennis-parallels Eve. Is gods follower.
Todd-devil
Sheep-symbolize innocence, purity, gods followers
The boss is God. He gives Dennis one command. Not a lot of explanation is given because this is a test for Dennis. He must prove himself.
John who recommended him was the apostle. I think he thought Dennis would be up to the task. But as you see, John also didn’t seem to have a lot of info. He just does as he’s told and has complete trust in the actions of those above him.
Dennis had failed in his spiritual duties before as seen by his flashback. This was his second chances at least that’s how I interpreted that flashback given the bleeding leg. Everything else is really straightforward but I’m not 100% sure on the flashback and the John thing.
Anyhow, the cliff that seemed like the end of the world was the entrance to hell. He saw it in the beginning and in the end when he killed himself.
Dennis had been living off the land God had provided for him but was bored. Here Dennis parallels Eve in the garden of Eden. Anyhow, he is persuaded to dine with the devil thereby disobeying the one command he was given(to not trust anyone else except the sheep-the sheep are lambs and they represent gods followers as well as innocence and purity).
The devil takes a jab at him by assuming Dennis’ relationship with his father is no good. He assumes this because he knows Dennis is disobeying the command. Dennis is clueless and doesn’t understand.
Anyhow, the devil is having a laugh at his expense since he knows everything . He goes so far as to lie by saying his relationship with his dad is good and his dad sees him as an equal lol. He is purely toying with Dennis in a situation where only he has all the information.
And then there are other references such as a deer dying by water when they consummate their unholy union-look up Psalm 42:1. There is also Dennis saying he feels he’s being watched from the more he desired Todd. And Todd completely lacking feelings for him but being satisfied with Dennis craving him. And then when the sheep are circled in the fence.
And then in a lot of media the injured leg is a reference to the devil.
He also says he’s never gotten hurt hunting at his inhuman nature.
Also like how he just toys with Dennis the whole time.
And Dennis fails his duty and is completely corrupted by the need becoming another fallen lamb.
you dont have to be religious to reference the bible? or to recognise the clear parallels in this story
i think their analysis is very interesting and if you read the story attentively then you would have thought the same too
you think youre so smart with your "fairytale" comment when you can't even see the very obvious undertones of this story
