The author did say that Ian is the worst of the 3 but your judgement of him is way too harsh. Jo knew Ian was still in love with TJ. And he said he didn’t care and only knew he wanted Ian. Ian told Jo from the start that he only wanted something casual. Jo couldn’t accept it. After Ian tried to end things with him, Jo insisted on being his friend. Then insisted on being his fuck buddy. It has always been Jo pushing for something more than Ian could give him. Ian was abused and neglected as a child. Raped and exploited as a teen. He found his self worth with other’s obsession with him. It started with TJ and it continued with Jo, but he was always honest with Jo, Jo said he wouldn’t demand all of Ian’s time and attention. Jo knew Ian was lonely after TJ’s disappearance and used it to his advantage by never leaving Ian's side. They had a surface level relationship, never diving deeper beyond just physical intimacy. Jo knew his place in Ian’s heart because he was scared to tell Ian he got accepted into college. And he acknowledged it again during their “breakup” chapter. You were never fully present when we were together. Ian tried to forget TJ. He tried to love Jo back but he couldn’t. Jo knew this was the outcome. What if Ian doesn’t come? I knew this was gonna happen but I didn’t think it would hurt like this. Like listen to your boy Jo and accept their relationship for what it is. A situationship at best. And hold Jo accountable for his own actions of pursing a man who was still in love with another! Jo played a game he was bound to lose.
