You new readers would get baffled by the amount of dark stuff we used to get, and of course it’s the Americans that are hurt about this topic because where else in the world would it be, you guys are the only ones that label a word as bad such as the N word, other countries care for shit, it’s in the past and we all moved on.
So stories like Free State of Jones should not exist? It’s problematic but it’s fiction, chill out my little yaoi newborns
just because we read yaoi that consists of two guys hardcore fucking does not mean we have to ignore when something offensive to others esp when its about race. esp when the people who are creating these manwhas are asian!
black people in this community are very respectful to asian people and understand theres a culture difference but this shouldve not been added easy simple.
stop trying to act like all of us yaoi readers are weirdos like you some of us have morals!!
its almost like slavery happened and that its a very sensitive topic for a fuck ton of people not just americans, and american slavery isnt the only slavery that happened in the world dumb fuck. and we wont move on bc its a major part of history we must learn so that it doesnt happen again dumbass
its always u ppl too istg
My parents are American but I was born in Europe so I don’t label myself the same since they raised me outside USA, but their older parents were victims, but we grew up enough to realize it’s in the past, we pay our respects and still will watch movies about that time. It’s not that deep, let the museum live in the past.
no fucking shit sherlock, the word "negro" and "nigger" came from North America. I didn't say that every black person was born in the US did I? The every slave came from Africa, they were taken from their homes, dipshit. And there's history in Africa that talks about slavery and shit, it would only make sense for every black person to be offended by this. Just say you're racist smh
Then do better because others black people still faced racial violence and discrimination and you're out here siding with a piece that hold harmful narrative toward a history of your ancestors where they fucking fought for your right to be treated as a human being. People on twt being blatantly racist and colorist just to defend another gay porn. This isn't revolutionary gay porn even.
thank you for your explanation but im a european black person too. your argument is based on your experience but the reality is that black people are very much affected by historical events, as are other groups of people. why is it okay for other cultures to acknowledge their past pain while black people are "too sensitive"? acknowledge your internalised anti blackness, lmao.
For someone who's so proud of being old, you're remarkably dumb despite all those years. What a tragedy.
Also, we're not all Americans lol. We still understand the issue, though.
And just because it's fiction, or because the genre always had dark themes for ages, doesn't mean we have to turn a blind eye and let things slide when an actual issue comes up !
And just because someone's old doesn't mean they're wise, and your comments are a pretty good reminder of that, yikes !
I don't understand the elitism stemming from age. I am an old reader as well, and I think dismissing the voices of younger readers is frankly, stupid. Because you have read yaoi for longer you suddenly become...an expert? Yes, dark stuff has always been a part of BL and even wider media in general but shouldn't we be taking a look at the medias we consume with more nuance? Why are we consuming just for the sake of consuming and making fun of the younger generation for rightfully criticizing something that isn't right? Even the author admitted that they mishandled the situation.
I think the argument that it's just fiction dismisses the the premise the story is built around, and how it still shapes the society of Americans. Fictional media has long been used to perpetuate harm upon black Americans. Of course something like this would cause backlash.
"literally always a TJ Stan" girl bye stop grouping this one with the rest of TJ stan. When there were Jo Stan in the comments defending this shit as well. Go on twt and a multiple Jo stan writing essays on why it's just fiction saying slur to defend the 1 racist yaoi slop. This isn't just a matter "oh TJ Stan this" "Jo Stan this" it's literally just ignorant people and you're saying this for what?
For those that liked the manhwa, give the books a chance, it’s really great and Charlie Cochet writes comedy like no one else.
The main story (THIRDS) has 10 volumes (with 4 different couples, Sloane and Dex are the main and we also have Ash and Cael (book 5) and Calvin and Hobbs (book 6) and Seb and Hudson (book 9). They all appear in most books (as couples as well after their own) and in the sides too.
The side books (novellas as we call it and extras) feature a new couple Austen and Zach (the bear that scares Dex at the start) in the novella series named THIRDS: Rebels.
We also have two beyond the books book, featuring short stories and some extra content.
And last but not least, after you read everything, she’s currently writing her second part of the universe called TIN, we already have 1 book (Dex and Sloane) and 1 novella featuring Wolf and Sean.
It’s a great series if you like not that serious stories, the plot is really amazing and it’s an easy read!
From the same manhwa artist there’s also Zero at the Bone (also has a book) and although Jane Seville never wrote any book again, ZATB is a MM classic and still remembered till this day as one of a kind. If you liked any of those two you can always ask me for some recommendations! I have plenty.
Btw, she has some short stories about ZATB
I don't know ow any other book series that are similar but I can give a fantasy book series on Crack called Tales From Verania by TJ Klune the first book is The Lightning Struck Heart and it will make you laugh, even make you frustrated from angst and drama, there is 4 books from the mc pov and a 5th book from a different pov. If you like urban fantasy there is the Soulbomd series by Hailey Turner and its my favorite urban fantasy series both bl and not bl
Zero at the Bone is a MM classic, Jane Seville never wrote again (unfortunately) but if you liked the manhwa give the book a chance, is just as good and there’s a lot of content that never made into the manhwa.
Hell & High Water is also from a MM series and Charlie Cochet still writes! I recommend both

This story is heavily plot focused but somehow reading it during launch makes me even more confused, I wonder how the author will develop Durant story because from what I gathered it’s only him from now on
