There’s so many instances where the adults and people who should know better show open malice to the CHILD mc. She’s like 13. That’s crazy work.
They first look down on her and wanna kick her ass and even when she shows her strength they either cower or wanna beat her up even more. Huh??? Is this just some form of face slapping to the extreme??? Or do people here not care for children???
I haven't even read this yet, but long rant incoming because I agree 100%:
This is SO incredibly common in manhwa/hua/ga and I always find it ridiculous. I mean yes, unreasonable people exist irl too, but the way such characters are depicted in fiction is exaggerated to the point of being absurd. Adults bullying children like they are 5 year olds themselves (not to talk about the classic "child mc being neglected by the dad because they are blamed for the mother's death" etc. in 60% of childcare manhwas), the trope of jealous women randomly targeting fl for male attention (I'm especially tired of the "jealous and comically malicious sister/best friend stole my husband and killed me, so now that I regressed I'm gonna get my revenge" OH MY FUCKING GOD STOP THIS BULLSHIT PLEASE) + the caricature-like sadistic cheating ex husbands, the trope of main characters hiding their abilities getting underestimated and bullied by every character... like, do these characters not know how to human?? Again, people like this DO exist, for sure, but why do authors always have to include the same old annoying tropes all over again for the sake of face slapping? I like some drama but I always hated THIS kind of ridiculous drama. I'd rather there be some angst because of an ongoing civil war or something, not childish bullying that adds nothing to the plot
This is a murim story, what did you expect. You look at the main character and she is basically one of the most decent characters despite being a former assassin. That's saying sonething about general character of various murim people. Even people from "righteous" sects are often assholes, not to mention those from demonic sects. Seriously, the more powerful a murim person is the more likely they are to be an asshole. It's a case of unchecked power where Namgung is basically synonimous with justice, so some of the clan members start thinking they can get away with anything since they are the ones who punish people, not the ones who get punished.
Not just murim but typical large clan power politics east and west. They can only see what's in front of them. A superpower niece is a threat to their position in the clan. That's the extent of it. And in a moral landscape that isn't just about the strong but about Face, where straight forward honesty is itself a crime.
Rather than a child, they see her as a threat because of what they represent. They’re scared of their position being taken because in the world of murim, yesterday’s cub can turn into a tiger. Just because someone’s a child doesn’t mean they can’t become dangerous later. So, in their eyes, it’s better to get rid of the carnivorous sprout, before it can bloom. Not to mention, if she shows something of herself, plus with how much the head favors her, there’s a high chance he’ll give the position of head to her dad. Not to mention, he’s held off on giving the head position for a while now, and they already had suspicions that the head favored the mc’s dad.
There are many people who would do ANYTHING to keep their positions, even if it means killing a child.

I’m still so confused on the limitations of his abilities (also warning for self harm and stuff)
He can’t hurt himself or anyone else at all. He can’t even cut a steak. Is that bc it would count as defilement of a corpse even if it does come from another living organism? How is he able to chew it then? Or is eating categorized differently? Can he cook? Do plants count under the living beings rule?
Does the self harm rule also apply to gravity? Like falling off a cliff, is he just unable to do that physically or does he take no damage? Bc of the steak example, I’m more inclined to believe it’s the latter, any injury is restored instantly basically. Or does he feel the pain, but it’d get better instantly.
What about drowning? Is he unable to enter the water or does the water do no damage to him? In the case of the latter, bro’s basically invincible (as long as he got suicidal thoughts?). What if he fell asleep in a bathtub? There would be no intent as it’d be an accident, so would the damage register then?
What if he did a bunch of extreme sports and got into an accident, would the injury/fatality affect him?
How would a car accident impact him? Can he drive his vehicle at high speeds and die from crashing (direct) or the flames and whatever comes after (indirect)?
What if someone else hits him w/ a car? Thats not really self harm, but it can be if he just runs towards a moving vehicle. How much does intent count towards this self harm rule? This rule feels pretty vague.
So I'm reading the novel and the description is something like "inability to harm leaving beings of the same race"
It described even an attempt to jump off a buildings with him unintentionally falling back instead of forward. And when in a pillow fight with friends an "invisible curtain bounced his pillow back". So I guess it means any means possible. I imagine it comes from intent.
That’s interesting and clears up some things, thank you! (Still a lil confused on the steak thingy tho)
But hypothetically speaking, what if he just walks on an empty highway and wait for rush hour? Would the traffic just not come? Would the vehicles just not hit? Would they swerve? But that’d be dangerous for the driver, so idk if that’s gonna happen. Or does he just bounce off the car and walk off just fine? Or would the vehicle just magically stop, even if it was speeding?
How would the monsters be counted? He can get injured from them, but would it not count as intentionally endangerment as long as he enters dungeons seeking death? Or does other’s malicious intent override his own suicidal tendencies? Now I’m just imagining him rage baiting others trying to get beaten up
I don't know if the power is explored to this extent in the novel, but I’m genuinely so curious.
I don't think even he knows about the monsters. Bc the only dungeon he entered before Chord was the 2 great dungeon. And about the cars I guess if he goes with intent he is just unable to walk? Or maybe if he's already at the middle and resolved to not move it would bounce bc remember he can't harm others, so others wouldn't be harmed. And the intent of others most likely can kill him as we saw with the tea from MLs brother
This is just what-ifs bc it's not really brought up up till the chapter I'm reading. But I can tell you he can't harm others even for self defense. Like when he's being dragged around by ML or kidnapped by others he can't really get out using force.
