Okay so I thought I'd say because its central to this narrative but the medusa myth was originally just about a monster lady. The central character elements were there around 400 bc, but the rape myth shows up around 400 years later by the Roman poet Ovid. Ovid was a poet who openly advocated for adultery while the emperor Augustus futility attempted to crack down on it. For being an obvious contrarian, he was banished and had his career ended. This gave him a hip on his shoulder aimed at a man who effectively held the power of a god, hence the retelling of medusa's story as on of an innocent victim who's life was destroyed by power tripping gods. It became the most common telling of the story but it's not the original. Poseidon is still canonically a rapist though, but his most famous rape story is in fact, a post facto political commentary
I think I'm about to burst, but not in a sexual way
