I was actually enjoying this quite a lot. The first 10 chapters almost made me drop it, but I continued and it became quite interesting. But then I reached around chapter 50 or so, and the archduke started acting so possessive and I started disliking it.
He started saying some bullshit and started being all weird and obsessive towards Elise. I don’t like this change. At the beginning I thought he was going to help her and actually love her, but then he had this twist in his personality and it made me kinda hate him a bit. I’m not sure if I should keep on reading this.

actually there's more to it, theyre twins but due to their circumstances they needed one another and cuz of it iirc most in the story suspected them of incestous relationship (kinda), i feel like this gives the story more mature and realistic settings (I DO NOT SUPPORT INCEST ) it all plays out rlly well its a good manhwa with bit more mature settings, if ur sick of generic manhwas with mary sue FL give this a read!
I saw so many good comments about it, so I was determined to give it a try but I reached chapter 40 and it became unbearable.
ML was just so fucking annoying. Bruh, you created a whole version of the events in your head. You fantasized about her for years and then she had ONE conversation with you, she exchanged FIVE sentences and you already drew an X. You decided after one conversation that she deserved to live the most miserable life and started hating her without ever trying to do anything or even giving her a chance.
He was such a bastard. He hurt her, he treated her like shit, he was so sure about making her life a living hell, but oh when she tried to kill herself because her life had no meaning, you’re surprised? Are you that fucking stupid? OFC she tried to kill herself!!! You made sure she hated herself and destroyed every single part of her life.
He was so unreasonable, none of his actions made sense. He had such a shitty selfsteem and was always comparing himself to her, saying she would never love someone “as lowly as him” while you had the woman head over heels for you. Are you that fucking blind? He was always blaming her for everything he did wrong. He never assumed responsibility for anything and he never once apologized for how shitty he was.
And now let’s talk about her. I don’t think she is completely innocent. We had her whole redeeming arc, in which she realized how easy her life was while others were suffering. But was any of that her fault? She was ignorant, sure, but she was raised like that and no one tried to open her eyes. Everyone around her hated her for how easy her life was while her father was absolutely disgusting, but no one actually tried to talk to her, to make her see. No one gave her a reality check but still blame her for not realizing on her own.
OFC SHE WASNT GOING TO REALIZE! No one ever gave her a chance but then they hanged her and blame her for not knowing. I hated that the whole premise was her atoning for her FATHER’S sins. Why is she guilty for that?
And omg don’t even get me started on how they are supposed to get together at the end. People actually wanted them to end together? How can someone who suffered as much as they did because of the other person, ever lead a normal relationship? They should have never end up together again. I cannot understand how can someone actually want them to be together.
I feel like we're skipping the part where he is an orphan kidnapped by the military, deprived of his childhood and forced to become a perfect soldier, then tortured by enemy soldiers all because of FL's father.
His hatred for the spoiled elite that profits from war is more than justified, call me crazy. Yes, it is very fucking delulu to see your commander's daughter as an idol bc she plays piano pretty, but when you're in the trenches how tf are you gonna survive that without delulu?
The moment his illusion breaks there is nothing to quell the hatred, and it's not about FL herself but what she didn't do, what she represents. She's not just a girl but a noble lady that wears dresses bought with blood money while none the wiser. Noblesse Oblige, look it up. I'm not saying ML is right but you're missing a lot of nuance. I wish he had a stronger redemption arc though for sure.
But anyway, maybe this is a hot take but the people who go out of their way to hate on ML fail to understand class politics properly, or are just too comfortable to understand his hatred.

I think he did have redemption it’s just not the kind that’s easy to grasp. It’s not as straightforward as losing parents to war or losing status. His redemption comes from realizing that his hatred was meaningless in the face of his love. He watches the person he loves try to take her own life multiple times and repeatedly put herself in danger on the warfront. Through that, he truly understands the cost of his actions and how much deeper his love runs than his hatred ever did. For me, that makes it a 10/10 redemption.

I understand what he had to go through and I absolutely hate FL’s father for doing that.
I can also understand the hatred in the beginning and why he wanted to make her suffer.
But at some point, it just became repetitive to me. He cared for her but also made her suffer. He blamed her for everything, he would get mad at her for things that he did.
I’m not saying his hatred is not justified, because it clearly is. But I’m not gonna agree with a couple like this getting together after seeing they are clearly toxic.
I totally agree with his decision to abolish the monarchy, and he got the revenge he deserved by killing the emperor, so either choose a side: or you kill the entire family and make them suffer, or you pardon her because you love her and didnt have anything to do with the faulty way her father was ruling the kingdom. But him being absolutely split about the FL just made me get sick of him.
And that might be quite heartless of me to say, but at the end of the day, he was like "no, i want her to suffer and have a shitty life" and then "omg no i dont want you to die", but then he would do shitty things. So choose a fucking side bruh. I understand his feelings were conflicted and he suffered a lot, but still loved her despite all that. So solve your fucking problems and choose what you gonna do, because him going back and forth tired me.

I feel sorry for him. Everyone has this kinds of expectations and i bet is hard for him to follow. If I was in that situation, it would be hard for me to start killing my colleagues, even tho they are being controlled and are attacking me. Also, captain expected him to kill him? That would haunt me forever.
At the beginning he was an asshole, but now he actually cares and worries about everyone, even Maru. I really like his character.
I don’t understand why can he say smt? Why can’t he open up about how his father beat the shit out of him, and how Hangun was actually the only one who was there for him.
Like I get it, he was low self esteem, I understand his trauma and all that stuff. But your father died, u could have stand up for the only fucking person that was there for you. Istg I don’t understand.
Also, I felt that the last chapters happened all too fast and too sudden. I got a bit lost tbh and there are some things that don’t make much sense for me. I guess we might get some clarification in s2 but idk, Won is pissing me off and Hangun also annoys me a bit.
