I relate to Kuga a lot because my mom is also like that. You get so overwhelmed with their love (and all the accompanying helicopter parent issues) to the point you become suffocated by them. It sours the relationship quite insidiously, most times beyond repair. In those cases, loving them from afar is the best for both the parent and the child, so Kuga was right to distance himself from the situation.

Yes, this kind of behavior doesn't stem from love for the child but anxiety and desire for control. You should want to see your child grow and live a life independent from you, to treat them as if they have no identity outside of being your child is kind of dehumanizing. It's not your doll, it's another human being.
I have a similar experience to Kuga except it's kinda 2x worse?? So I understand his experience. It's not that I don't love my parents, we're immigrants and they have worked hard to support me, but their behavior makes me sick. I can understand why they would be anxious, but that doesn't give them the right to exercise so much control over me. I shouldn't have to be responsible for their anxiety. I've missed out on so many real life experiences and as a result I feel so underdeveloped compared to my peers. I feel as if I've wasted a large portion of my life.
Everyone faces their own battles dear. If you think about it, I feel that is better than having no parents at all. Having no one to provide, care, guide, nor raise you, left alone to find rights and wrongs. Either side would wish to have either side.
But I do hope you overcome your difficulties and in the future, once free, your relationship becomes better
