I get her suffering and the empathy is there, but at the same time, our main character went through a really hard time as well and still she didn't choose to act the way Anita is behaving. I also hate the trope that because I'm hurting. I'm allowed to hurt other people and still be forgiven for that. Again, our main character life is also not that great and she still chooses to be a better version than she was last time. Anita had a hard time in her life. I will give her that, but at the same time, just because you had a hard life. Doesn't give you the right to hurt other people.
I don't know why so much people hate on these type of characters. You guys do know you're reading a dark romance right? If you don't want dark romance tropes, then don't read it.

this discourse has gotta end every week it’s the same devils advocate statement. i swear the issue is not the dark romance having dark romance it’s that the characters do bad things but are called out or criticized and that’s okay. you know why people hate on these characters. a story can be captivating, even if it’s insulted
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. That is completely fine. As an example I am a person who doesn't enjoy reading sci-fi so I wouldn't put myself in a position of reading a sci-fi because I know I already have a biased going into it. And to me, unshamefully, people have kinks, and if you are consenting to read something that you know has dark topics like rape and if that is a kink of yours, why should that person be judged or ridiculed for liking it. That's why, whenever I hear somebody that likes that type of trope, I always recommend "The Ritual" because it talks about rape and kink in such a interesting way, and it doesn't shame people. A lot of people, they don't realize that they're doing this but they shame people all the time for the sexual things that others enjoy and a lot of these people read these type of books and mangas, because they can't find a person in real life that accepts them and doesn't shame them for the kinks they have. Again, everybody is entitled to their own thinking their own perspective. But why are these people seeking out other things that people enjoy just to crap on them? I will never understand that.
I don't read dark romance to find green flags. I read dark romance for the red flags.
