I hate the beta turning into a omega trope. Don't get me wrong there are lots of good stories which includes some kind of 2nd gender transmission but I cant help bring it up. Whenever a omegaverse story is Alpha×Alpha, OmegaxOmega, AlphaxBeta or any other type of omegaverse is rare in a story one of them always turns into a alpha or omega and to turn it into a "proper" relationship and that just icks me so much cuz it feels so homophobic.
Now let me explain, in omegaverse AlphaxOmega is the proper ideal relationship no matter the first gender, just like how straight relationships are irl so AxO is the hetro or normal of Abo. And other dynamics such as AxB, AxA, OxO can be considered minorities or rare in relationships in Abo just like how Lqbtq is irl. So whenever a story initially starts with AxA or OxO and then somehow one of them is turned into a omega and then they date ot get married etc
Its like saying "Oh such relationships are only a phase and you'll eventually marry the opposite gender anyway." Ofc I know that there are alot of omegaverse stories that differentiate from what I brought up but it doesn't exclude the fact that there are so many stories with the exact trope im describing. Also most of the times there are so many ridiculous justifications given for the gender change that it makes no sense. A really popular justification especially in historical stories is that they cant have children so how am i gonna have an heir esp in historical stories, i want kids blah blah blah... And this is a real life issue as well. I know that the world of Abo is vastly different from ours and the topic of pheremons and ruts/ heats cannot be disregarded but i still have seen many omegaverse stories with BxO or AxA and they make it work.
There is a story BxB that talks about how in their AxBxO society, they still view their gay relationship as forbidden, and I think this is a true statement in a way. Really in historical ones, they remind me about the real history that many woman faced about not having the ability to have children and how they where thrown aside for someone better. It shows that those teachings are still in people's minds in a way, and they reflect in what they write.
Any relationship in yaoi manga (except toxic ones), outside of the norm is changed to conform with what is viewed as normal (especially since some, not all and maybe not many, authors are not part of the LGBTQ+ community so they view this as oh people want "normal").
yea i agree… especially with the whole omegas always looking very small and petite and ik that’s the whole like “definition” of an omega and the characteristic ls portrayed by them but sometimes when they didn’t start off looking like that and they progress to that stage later in the story it sometimes feels very heteronormative and sometimes i feel like that’s what’s the author is trying to achieve
