I thought for sure that he is truly a bird in a cage letting the world pass him by but NOOOOO. He is fighting in his on way! Along with going to therapy and getting a part-time job-- he is also gathering evidence and looking for ways to get his own justice in the way he can. The slow reveal from him being a damsel in distress character to someone who really wants his own life to change for the better and taking matters that he can in his own hands is so good. I'm very much impressed.
I can't wait to see how the creator reveals the rest of the story.
Hokazono's art is showcased in his masterful use of black spaces and his interesting panelling. It helped him in showing the emotional gravity of a scene and the multitude of grief not shown in in Rok's face. He also does this for Chihiro in Kagurabachi.
Not to mention, his dynamic action scenes are done without clutter.
I like that his narrative style is not rushed. His exposition is enough that would make you care about the Rok's motivation that leave you wanting more.
All in all this is the perfect one-shot that showcases what Hokazono's is capable of and what he prioritizes in his writing.
I need more word building lore please pleeeaaaase
And Hakuhiro/Chihaku PLEASE
The ending good and sweet but too rushed. I wouldn't have felt this way if the creator did not raise questions about the following:
1. Origin of the System
2. Karyan's route conclusion
3. Karyan and Ilya's family drama
4. Sears
5. Fortune Teller
6. Overwhelming amount of Mana
7. Source of the game
8. The line between Game and Reality
9. Why the fuck is there only one woman in the whole manhwa
10. And other inquiries analogous to the foregoing.
It makes me wonder if my childhood love would have ended the same way if I realized my feelings earlier. I would have done anything to pursue it. Or if maybe she would.
But I guess the reason it didn't is because, unlike Kazu and Moto, She and I didn't love each other enough to stay. Whether it's romantic or otherwise.
Kou's trauma and Eito's sexual discovery is so relatable I can't count how many times I've nodded my head. Their drama is also real af bc I've been there and it's so relieving seeing something happen the same way and ending on a very happy note unlike mine
The fact that the ultimate goal of the antagonist is to give him a harem end means that such route is the most vile and evil route!
I really like how this manga is poking fun or dare I say-- mocking-- at the harem genre itself. As shown in how the villain plays author by staging scenarios to deepen romantic bonds. Letting Hikaru know that those instances are inauthentic and tainted with malicious intent. Which he is so desperately avoiding. Since what inspired him to want to get married is seeing the people around him fall in love organically and cosmically. It would actually be a thematic masterpiece for an mc of a supposedly "straight" harem to end up with the femboy (lol). You know, the one who knows him, cares about him and is the who has shown to care about Hikaru's happiness.
I just hope that the mangaka cares enough about the girls to gave them their own sense of agency at the end of the manga. So far they do have distinct personalities and have character developments that does not entirely rely on impressing the guy. Their main dillema revolves around missed opportunities and timing.
I WANT THIS! THIS LOVE THIS RELATIONSHIP AND YES EBEN THIS SEX! WTFFFFFFFF
The intricacate way the author portrayed the underlying issues pertaining to relationships is what really brought this close, too close to my heart.
I relate to each and everyone of them, I've been a Mami, a Kuze, a Masumi, a Toma, a Taichi--even a Kennusuke. So seeing how the authir addresssed everything and not giving a definite answer is so so sooo relieving.
And that ending is just so wonderful. I wish I could articulate just how much.
This is painfully beautiful, yet also relieving.
I love that the story never assumed the role of telling its reader the definite answer to their problem. Living in a heteronormative society, and dealing with the trauma from sexual assualt hinders a persons capability to accept themself.
This story is amazing. It portrays, in a way that it's amusing (atleast in my perpective) and painfully realistic, the way other characters clumily try to justify what they deem as the norm.. Like when they push their views on romance to the main character. Or when they were unable to comprehend Arima's problem, going as far as to label it a mental illness. I am thankful that Taiga outrightly defended him. It also shows that the belief of these other characters is uncertain. Saying that they don't understand can be understood as them not knowing. To the reader, we are given the chance to be in any of these people's shoes.
In the end, another amazing thing is that we are given a story where the ignorant are not antagonized by the narrative. And that is also important.
throw out to you, me, and at everyone.
Will you choose to choose who Taichi chose?
Will you stay and keep waiting for the stars to somehow align and the clock to chime at a certain time, hoping against hope that this status quo will still be the comfort that it has always been?
Or will you hold you head high and strive to walk through life to reach that ideal you pursue?
I won't reiterate what KAITO clearly stated in his afterword, if you haven't read it, please do. For it will give you an idea how this manga was gorgeously made. And why that ending left you with no choice but to scroll down thriugh the comments for comfort. To not be the only one thinking of glee, frustration, and relief.
This manga is beautiful. It tore the cages of my heart to free the bird frantically beating against my chest. It cleared my lungs out of the feathers clogging understanding, and giving me the clarity I longed.
It is true that not all conversations needed a resolution. This manga does not intend to push any definite answer that will overshadow the conclusion you reached to. Even now, I don't want to be smug and scream that my ship sailed. Because then, for people who are not ready to comprehend nor have any intent to acknowledge, it will come across as me undermining the worth of this manga.
KAITO presented us a variety of choices. Born from the variety of issues he raised. It is up to us how we interpret the open-ended questions that are still being debated in real life. We may not arrive to one conclusion after all in this lifetime. We may never will. But nontheless this story begets hope that they choices we make will leads us to living happily with confidence, just like the characters did.
You write so good please keep doing what you love to do. The writing for the side stories is not just a small dessert it's a full course meal holy fucc.
I love how MGR incorporated all the elements in the main story and used it to enhance the side stories.
