So I might be remembering some things totally wrong but it was a separate story, maybe 1-2 chapters at the end after the main story(unfortunately I can't remember what that was about).
A highschool age boy goes to visit a shrine, and there's a boy where one of the fox statues should be, so he thinks that he's the spirit of the fox statue. They become friends, and then when the boy doesn't show up one day, he thinks he vanished or returned to the statue..? But it turns out the boy was just somewhere else or skipping school or something, and the statue is back because it had been away being repaired or cleaned. No actual supernatural elements going on. I've searched through any relevant tags/lists I can think of on here and other sites, and somehow still can't find it any help is appreciated!
