no third party is involved. rensley runs away at some point and that’s when the duke takes his feelings seriously and realizes rensley is the only one for him. they get married at the end :) so for a while, they were just putting off the heir issue since it’s not a huge concern atm. in the side stories, rensley and the duke make love in their highest magical forms (duke in his demon form and rensley when his magical energy became disrupted and unstable) and the next day, a cocoon formed which seemed to have some type of life form growing inside of it. so far they’ve been observing the cocoon for a few months, but nothing has happened yet.
