We are all here familiar with the concepts and lore of the omegaverse - but with all things, what seems like a niche genre now is tomorrow's "blockbuster".
People of all backgrounds seem to be devouring werewolf/orc/etc, a/b/o smut en masse. It reminds me of my grandmother's harlequin romances, but with heat cycles rather than swashbuckling. It's commonly available and omegaverse adjacent.
Even the toxic man-o-sphere uses the terminology - although if a smutty a/b/o movie came out, I wonder if they would abandon the metaphor. Maybe it would collapse entirely?
I don't know. It seems like "horny woman" media is such a wildcard. You all saw what happened with Heated Rivalry at the beginning of the year - is yaoi in general becoming more mainstream??
Just trying to read the bones here from a semi-isolated canadian perspective anyway, curious of the community's thoughts.
From what i see, omegaverse isnt main stream yet, not likely for a few more urs. BUT the concept of werewolves alpha beta shit has been pretty mainstream that its been getting out of hand. Like how some students who read one definition line and run away with.
And yes yaoi is is getting mainstream. Not as wholesume and big cos the media is littered with misogynistic opportunistic capitalists monkey, but atleast fans are getting fed.
Not for a very very VERY long time. People can't even accept trans people, there is no way they are readily going to accept the original idea of the Omegaverse: males getting pregnant. I just look at some popular actors/actresses interviews and the commenters who still misgender them, because they refuse accept a trans person. So it's going to be an extremely long time before it hits true mainstream media. (Opinion from an American.)
One small exception: I've seen a few self-published romance novels that use the ABO universe in them, so that's one step.

I love seeing normies (specially self proclaimed alpha males) get introduced to omegaverse wit the premise of werewolves heirarchy and animalistic instincts and say yea im an alpha peak of the pack etc etc and then gets explained that omegaverse is mpreg dream utopia and that males will get pregnant. The look on their faces are peak!
(And yes female omegas dont make sense. Alpha male omega female dont make sense. The only acceptable sl pairing in omegaverse is alpha female, omega male and he gets pregnant)
