I remember reading this back in middle school, and absolutely loving it. But now that I’m older, my entire perspective on the story has changed. I remember seeing Navier as the innocent, wronged FL, but looking back, I don’t think that’s entirely true anymore.
It seems unfair to judge people from a different era by modern-day moral standards and blame them for accepting slavery and other practices that were considered perfectly normal back then. But by that same logic, it also seems ridiculous to blame a slave for taking advantage of an opportunity like this, especially in a time when having concubines wasn’t even illegal.
So, honestly, I don’t think anyone in this story is truly innocent. However, I think what ruined the story was the excessive glorification of Navier and the ML, while Rashta was demonized and held to a much harsher standard than everyone else.

Trashta was in a situation she couldn't control and was trying to survive, but that doesn't excuse destroying another woman's life. She had so many chances to make things right, yet she kept choosing what benefited her. She wanted the throne, she wanted power, and she wanted to be above everyone else. She could have accepted being a mistress and lived her life, but she wanted more. Yes, she was used, but she wasn't completely powerless. She could have gone to Navier for help instead of making herself part of Navier's downfall.
Navier wasn't even ruthless at the beginning. She was pushed into becoming someone who wanted to hurt the people who hurt her. People forget that she wasn't always like that. The way she was treated changed her.
And the king? He's just a selfish man who wanted to have both women while expecting everyone to accept his nonsense. He was manipulative, condescending, and too stupid to understand the damage he was causing.
Trashta may have been a victim, but she also made choices that hurt another woman. And the king was never innocent in any of it. They're both terrible, and I'm tired of people acting like being used automatically excuses everything you do.
This is what I meant when I said the characters in this story aren’t exactly innocent. I don’t understand why the author felt the need to make Navier look so much better than everyone else, especially when she had her own flaws. Rashta may not have been a good person, but that doesn’t automatically make Navier a good one. She was a queen who saw nothing wrong with slavery, and I don’t think that’s something we should just brush aside.
And to be clear, I don’t hold Navier’s desire for revenge against her. I can understand why she wanted it, and I’m not particularly concerned with how she chose to get it. What bothers me is how differently the story treats these characters. Rashta is constantly framed as the villain, while Navier and the others are given the benefit of the doubt and portrayed as good people, even when their actions are just as questionable. Why does Rashta have to be the only one held accountable?
Rashta only wanted the throne and power cause ergy manipulated her into believing that's the only way she'll be safe from going back to slavery ergy instructed her what to do how to act he used her as a pawn for his revenge scheme how exactly did she destroy another woman's life when the said woman was a born noble with a silver spoon in her mouth and the most protected and beloved among the nobles and common people Navier just like every other nobles in this story looked down upon her with scrutiny for the mere fact that she was a slave the maids tried to poison her to kill her unborn child the nobles plotted against her especially ergy the emperor is a pedophile rapist who preyed upon a young slave girl and your empress Navier was complicit in all this she benefits from the slavery and oppression of people like Rashta she even befriended her former slave owner she also defended her brother when he hit a pregnant woman and covered for him cheating on his fiance her new husband is a war criminal also did he not sentence an entire family including children to slavery just because they bad mouthed Navier?
