This is one fucked up manga that is a complex web of fucked misogyny. If you read the author’s first interviews on what he wanted to explore in this manga, it is explicitly what it would be like for a male mind to be put in a female body and how that man would cope with that. Despite this there is not one female character that is well fleshed out or well written or treated with respect. It is completely male centric. Using the female body this way is weird and fucked up. It seems fetishizing and weird, you’ve even removed the female mind, his literal sister who’s body he’s in wasn’t written with respect or any depth, she’s depicted as promiscuous, and specifically making it his sister who’s body he takes over and his tortured feelings of lust seems like some weird fetish.

I don't know if she’s going to stick to it but the ending is they don't get together, he doesn’t return her feelings and he walks into literal (maybe metaphorical) fire, possibly because the angst and guilt of the situation. She then lies down near the waves and lets herself be washed away to her death. The title of the movie in Muse on Fame is called Self-immolation. The characters are actually metaphors for the writer/director and how he tries to process the trauma he went through, both are parts of himself. I actually found Muse on fame to be ok overall, I was enthralled while reading it but looking back after the ending it seems kinda shallow and is propped up by a lot of contrived scenarios. A really good story with a similar plot to this one “Clone” is “Haru no Noroi”. It’s just written with depth and heart and weirdness. I don’t know if the author improved on their writing for “Clone,” I hope so. The opening chapter already seems too angsty for me. “Haru no Noroi” is also angsty but somehow also endearing, I don’t know how they were able to achieve such balance. It’s a truly well written forbidden romance.
None of this platonic soulmates who have sex to communicate their platonic love bullshit like maka maka, they better have some soul crushing romance. She better not have just lovingly fingered her to express her sadness and want to comfort her precious friend whom she admired since when they were in school.
Holy shit this author consistently makes the most insufferable, annoying, and selfish characters ever, and they mostly write yaoi. And this artist makes beautiful yuri with badly written plot and characters. WHAT IN THE HECK IS HAPPENING HERE??? A YAOI WRITER + A YURI ARTIST MAKING STRAIGHT SHIT????
