Mom come pick me up I'm scared

Lunalu May 6, 2026 7:16 am

Wait I thought we already knew all this? Or did only we as readers know and Sam didn't?? This whole time I thought he knew and that's why he was so stubborn and opposed to everything in the beginning

    Pukupukupaopao May 6, 2026 7:58 am

He didn't know, he knew all of them died. Didn't know Changgeon hid Juhye

I ate this chapter up so fast.... I love the unique angle they seem to be heading, I love that they are open to talking through their issues and worries instead of ignoring them or just having sex like a lot of other manhuas

    Ruri April 23, 2026 8:39 pm

Yes! My thoughts exactly. When I saw them go into that hut with wet clothes like that I was like.... Welp, this is leading to a sex scene. So I was pleasantly surprised to see them actually talking about their feelings.
I'm sure with the wet clothes and all its still gunna lead to sex, but it's nice they're talking a but first

Only way I'm gonna feel a smidge better about how the horse treated Dan when he got beat up and didn't give a shit, is if this ends up being a similar event but J makes the CORRECT choices this time before continuing to chase and grovel smh

The amount of people I've seen struggling with understanding the writing is making me wonder what the average age of readers here is?

    LadyMay February 9, 2026 11:23 pm

Not most of them are native speakers. It's normal to struggle with that kind of English.

That makes sense for some of the comments yeah

I have troubles too as a non-native speaker. I read every chapter 2 or 3 times. It's a struggle but the story is so good.

its not age you should wonder but the lack of reading comprehension...sometimes people need to re-read a chapter or even the whole novel or even talk to others to truly grasp the meaning behind the author's message.

Well, memory isn't as reliable of a tool as it might seem, even if you have a good one. Especially if you are reading multiple stories at the same time or if you're not that into the story, it's easy to forget some elements or mix up similar stories. I have a friend who forgets very quickly what she reads which makes discussing stories difficult sometimes.

Also, different people have different backgrounds and filters which affects the way we interpet things. I took a creative writing class once and we would read our homework in front of the class and we would discuss what we thought about them and I swear to god, everybody understood something different. Yes, reading comprehension can play a role, most certainly, language barriers as well, but even whithout any of that, miscommunication and misinterpretation happen all the time. That creative writing class I'm refering too was in universty and was part of a litterature program, the people in it we were mostly avid readers, they were educated and they were not dumb. I was praised in that class for my precision in writing and yet people still found ways to miss the point or understand something else and I did the same with other people's work. I have a good memory in general and tend to remember everthing I read more than most people and yet sometimes I forget stuff about what I read. I think it's just being human.

Oh, and may I add: for this specific story, the structure is a bit weird since it wasn't initially planned to be a long story. A lot of the story was fleshed out in a way that is a bit atypical and it really feels like the depth of it was developped after the initial start rather then carefully planned out, which can definitely make it more challenging to understand since people might be used to a different type of story telling (I was gonna say "smoother" but I don't think it's the right word... maybe organized? I most definitely don't find the narrative style to be very effective and clear compared to others) Anyway, the story is interesting but purely from a narrative, technical perspective, it's not the best.

Oh boy, you just wrote an essay that kept me at bay. Hahahah I've been pondering and coming back here whenever I see it updating. The title is catchy and good historical manhwas are rare, so this piqued my interest.

While scrolling through the comments, I stumbled here. You mentioned this as a manhwa that was supposed to be short and that stayed with me. I guess this is a good pass then.

Hey, BTW, I like how clear your essay is hahahah

This story’s vocab is fine but Steel Under Silk…my God I have to look up a word almost every panel. I am ashamed of this, I don’t know why my vocabulary is so bad and why I forget all these words that I know I’ve seen and looked up before But I’m 18

some vocab is particular to the time period so dont feel too bad for looking up a few words that absolutely not something people tend to use in modern day.

Thanks haha I'm always careful about clarity when I write... the manga is perfectly fine if you ever feel like reading it, some people seem to really love it. I'm enjoying the ride but I think I'll let it marinate a bit before I keep reading it. It's getting harder for me to recall the story as time passes and I think I'll need to re-read it, so I prefer to binge read it later when there will be more of it out. Still overall entertaining even if not perfect, but no story is ever perfect anyways.
