Usually in BL BDSM we either get light play like cuffs or maybe some toys, or we get hardcore stuff like ropes or clamps or puppy play. What we usually don’t see are the sadists that are more concerned with teasing their partners into oblivion. Embarrassment/humiliation is usually treated as an afterthought or a given in BL BDSM scenes but it’s a really powerful method of sadism all on its own imo. Nothing Jaewon did was painful or designed to hurt Eunho (except the spanking, but only barely). All of it was meant to embarrass Eunho and expose him to new sensations and overwhelm him that way. I loveddddd it. The ice cubes? Based. The shirt-only rule in the studio? Based (and some of Jaewon’s dom tendencies coming out too, but I digress). And then to carry Eunho around everywhere? Based x1000. I need to see more Jaewons out there tbh.

But for the first time having penetrative sex, you choose the passenger seat? Sure they got handsy before then but really? They were both into it so I guess to each their own, but that seems like an odd place to have sex for the first time and would probably add to the discomfort. This is literally my only complaint about the story, it’s great otherwise! I’m just baffled is all.

He actually didn’t take Geonwu’s words at face value and looked at all of the other signs that Geonwu was lying, most MLs be like “oh you’re lying to my face saying you don’t love me anymore (or some obvious bs) even though you said you loved me yesterday and there are signs there’s more to the story but I’m gonna take your words at face value anyway because I’m too dumb to look at the big picture and now I’m hurt.”

This story is clearly incomplete. We spent so much time with all of the Illusion players and we barely see them in the last 15 chapters! I want side stories where they toss that guild rule and have a whole meet up irl and I want them to find out about Jigu and Yeowoon. I want to learn more about them too, like Meowie (give him a wholesome high school BL romance!!!!!) and Roash (if she’s a girl irl give her a wholesome yuri, let’s make the whole guild gay!) and the others. I want Yeowoon and Jigu to meet each other’s friends and families. I want Jigu to figure out what he really wants in life and for him to grow as a person and get his degree and a job and make his parents proud. I want them to have a lot of sex (and maybe figure out their ACTUAL kinks?!?!?!). This story is so good but it could be better if it just does the things I mentioned. I’m begging on my knees for real.

Brother, grow tf up and talk to Seungjoo, you are 10 years older than him but he’s also an adult so you can literally share your concerns with him and talk through them. Dear lord, the way he decided everything himself and always kept his mouth shut royally pissed me off. Green flags (mostly) otherwise thankfully.

I think Seung-gyu has a solid case for defamation here. He not only took a major hit to his reputation that would be difficult to sort out (people care more about accusations than the truth), but he suffered material losses through the decrease in business at his clinic, and even faced assault and vandalism (not by Dohyeon himself but due to the things he said, e.g. inciting violence). Samsam ALSO has a defamation claim, given that he lost a commercial contract due to the nonsense Dohyeon was spreading around, not to mention more assault charges with video evidence (this time against Dohyeon himself). I hope that fucked gets sued into oblivion and faces both civil and criminal charges and goes bankrupt and rots.

Note that this is all armchair law based on American law, not Korean. But I’m super heated right now so here’s my rant. I’m willing to research precedent and relevant law if pressed.

Writing a novel because I wanted to like this but it has too many problems I can’t overlook.

Compliments first. I like the art style a lot, it’s very well done. I also love omegaverse in general so that’s another plus. And I enjoyed the setting a lot, the modern royalty setting is something I’ve only seen once before, also omegaverse, and I really loved it more than I expected.

Now on to the problems: the chemistry between the leads seems highly manufactured, we’re supposed to believe that (spoiler) Wookyung imprinted when they were kids but really starts out thinking of Baekwoo as something he should possess? Then he’s way aggressive with Baekwoo, against doctor’s advice too!! He’s too much. None of the side characters matter, despite being introduced and occasionally given some character development.

But above all, I have two very big problems with this. 1) The progression of time feels inconsistent. Take, for example, the days leading up to Baekwoo’s project presentation. They say that he has three days to work on it and the presentation is in a week, but after the project is done, the story acts as though at least an additional week has passed. Another is example is the sex ban after Baekwoo was hospitalized. Doctor said no sex for a week, Wookyung of course was like “four days max” (ugh). Things happen, they explicitly say that those events occur on “the fourth day” implying that they’re four days into their sexless week. Several more days appear to pass, and then they say “it’s been four days!!! We can bang again!!!” Which obviously makes no sense.

However, that issue may all come down to my biggest issue: the translation. I genuinely believe there was no proofreader involved at any point, otherwise the errors make no sense for an official translation. Misspellings, grammatical errors, words that don’t make sense in context, inserted words that look as though they were meant to be deleted, what were likely meant to be idioms translated literally instead of localized for English readers, and probably more things I’m forgetting. I notice even the tiniest of errors and am willing to overlook them when they’re small or few and far between. But this translation is egregious and disappointing. I’m sure translating is an arduous process, but I’m almost certain the translator would’ve caught most of the errors just by rereading their own work. If not, they needed a proofreader. Side note though, the translation actually used “wont to do” correctly, I NEVER see it spelled correctly like that and it made me feel insane after all my issues because this happened in the last few chapters which is nuts.

This has gone on too long. It’s not the worst I’ve read, not even close, but it doesn’t feel special and its issues are the kinds that piss me off, in particular. If you also like this setting and somehow haven’t read it yet, just go read Whispers Through the Willows. I’m gonna give this a 2.75/5, I don’t think it’s good enough for a 3 but not bad enough for a 2.5. Maybe others who can overlook my personal pet peeves will like it more.

I keep telling him I read about the literal perfect solution in this manhwa but he won’t even hear me out. Fine bro, go ahead and suffer for all I care.
