It was just a hopeless story from the start. The MC was also a child when he had to take responsibility of the ML so their is no way that a child(MC) who has only experienced death and killings will grow up to be a sane person.
Both the characters are in constant pain and misery because they were left by their parents who were killed by the mafia criminal leader is the main idea of the story if u read it without pinning the blame on either bottom or top.

I felt so bad for FL imagine breaking your walls and letting someone in. Putting all the negatives you’ve grown up seeing and hearing from your parents finally putting caution and fear to the side and finally telling that man how you sincerely feel about him only for him to prove all your fears and nightmares true.
As a reader I also believe the ML. I totally believed he was sincere with feeling. Only to cringe at his response. God! I can’t imagine the embarrassment, pain and self loathing she must have felt.
