Anyone darker than copy paper gets done so dirty They all look so gray and ashy that it's jarring in comparison to everyone else who looks so... lively and polished. One or two characters? Fine. Undertone can be cool to olive-y (which is striking contrast to other people's warm tones) ,but EVERYONE? THEY JUST LOOK LIKE GRAY MEN?? GIMME SOME RED, SOME PINK, SOME YELLOW- this just tells*me* that the artist didn't bother using references at all or down right didn't care about the presentation of their darker skinned characters :/
Nobody really ever gave a fuck about him growing up, did they? The last few chapters were done well, and in character, but genuinely wtf . Definitely soured my perception of the duke AND duchess. Lowkey equal parts pitiful and enraging because nobody got what they they wanted /nobody really did what they should've out of PRIDE.
GENUINELY. ONLY RUEDIGER GREW SOMEWHAT STABLE AND THAT'S BECAUSE HE PARENTS DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT HIM!
Again. I get how it makes sense in-character (author did a really good job on showing how people are multifaceted and can be "ugly"),but I can stay made as a reader. Most well done piece of annoyance I have ever read. Double-damn for me though, because this was genuinely the only way I saw this playing out. I hate how perfect it was for this story.
9/10 story. Would recommend to anyone and everyone as is.
The art style gets some getting used to,but the characters have more fluidity and coherent proportioning towards the end of the work. Story wise,it's simply nice. Even the hidden secret thing later on was wrapped up with a bow.
The only thing I disagree with is the throw away chapter on corsets. Which. Fair. The author and artists seemed well versed in teas and their history,so I couldn't expect them to know *everything* about history. That wouldn't be fair to them as people and it really wouldn't make as much sense narratively from MC's end. Corset though, were generally very comfortable and support but they did fall out of favor after a wave of super-tight corsets (on purpose) from noble women wanting to achieve an exaggerated hour glass figure and general changes in fashion trends. And there was something truth to a Tea Gown helping the corner die down.
But it really wasn't nearly as bad as media (tv,movies, books, works like these) make it seem. And that's my one real gripe of this work.
Rodina, a Japanese woman in her previous life, is now a commoner who enters a contract marriage with nobleman Margrave Dirmik for money (women of this world have limited income). MC prepares herself for a beast, but it turns out her husband is conveniently-attractive by Japanese standards and is only ugly by his kingdom's standards. As such, the ML is constantly bewildered by MC's easy affection and willingness to interact with him.
A quiet love begins to bloom between MC and ML as they find their footing in a "real" marriage instead of a contract marriage between a bought, commoner bride and doubtful noble.
I get it, I get it- she was ill informed while trying to subvert her original fate. Fine,I get that. You do NOT get to play the victim ,"Oh, I'm just a terrible person after all!!!" And then force your presence, your feelings, onto the person you (presumably) hurt with your actions to atone. That's not atonement that asking someone to deal with your baggage and guilt for you because you're too cowardly to do it on your own.
This singular character arc /background explanation pissed me off to no end - more than other stories- because it makes a character insufferable for no reason. If she really was "woe is me," you'd think it'd be done in the capital to give that stupid Romeo and Juliet scene more weight with the scandal and betrayal some depth. This is just cheap writing in the middle of something light hearted and fun. It did not need to overreach.
I know some people will think I'm overreacting- and I am- but I 100% this really did ruin the storyline a bit. The MC is moreso a pushover to me in this story, now. The "villaness" is no longer just a person who fell in love with the right person at the wrong time. This is just lame. I will stay mad about this cuz wtf.
Nah... you are 100% right... that kind of woe is me characters are annoying as frick. Not to mention how she didn't even bother to learn if the guy had a fiancee or not. To me that makes her not much better than ogHeroine... and mc's personality is also... bland to say the least.
Honestly I find the personality of the women in most of these stories... bland and weird... they have this kinda feudal mentality that doesn't fit neither the historical nor modern setting... they are submissive and delicate in weird ways... and strong and opinionated in other weird ways... and it makes them being reincarnator/transmigrator/possessor kinda useless... instead of a setting it feels more like an excuse for some of their behaviors that doesn't fit the overall setting.
exactly! And as for the MC, I do think she's fairly bland beyond her "I can punch things really hard." Hell, her character growth segments thus far have been spoon fed to her/us as readers (most blatant being the scenes with her father!!). Like, really? I can turn off my brain and enjoy work like everyone else, but I do not appreciate being treated like I'm dumb.
The only thing I appreciated about her was that all she needed to snap out of it and keep the ml instead of all that drama was the father being: Ok, are u sure? So I can break this engagement and he can marry someone else and you'll be fine with it right? And she was: Nope! He's mine! But yeah... that aside there's nothing much about her... and honestly... not much of a fan of the stereotype punk=weirdos they went with for the soldiers of her family... that caricature of "macho dragqueens" in her battalion also didn't sit well with me... neither that or the just hyper muscular women would be ok... not when it feels so much more like ridicule than some sort of representation...
Especially when the super-strong and special MC also ends up... dainty like her mom? I wasn't even expecting a body builder type of physique, no, but did they really did that bit of "Oh I'm just so little compared to my brothers!"?
It makes those scene of her special force so much ore jarring. Like. Damn. MC is MC because she's still conventionally attractive while strong and not freakishly muscular like her soliders -.- Honestly. How annoying.
10 chapters in: a lil fast and flip flopping between absurdity and drama ,but ig this really is MC living her best second life.
20 chapters in: where- why - just TALK TO PEOPLE! PLEASE!
30 chapters in: okay, woah, this is all happening so fast and be so fr REALLY?
40: oooh plot twist? A villain that commits?? Kinda nice
50: the plot thickens? With cornstarch ig
60: the plot is lumpy because they didn't stir in the cornstarch properly and they're dragging shit out. Idl if I agree with the whole forgiving your abusers message under tone here. Also. SINCE WHEN DOES SHE-
70: shoot me. Wtf is happening. The story is 100% done now. Why are you dragging this on?
80: I fucking hate this story.

4/10
Genuinely, the only one wirh makes even a bit of sense are : MC (but he sucks at communicating with people of his home world), MC's mom (but she's not developed well ad a character) and the Green Beast (who's family was fridged).
I hate basically everyone else for being boring, sporadic, or I just don't connect with them well enough because of how crazy the plotline is before chapter 80 (crazy and is not very centralized). I doubly hate the Crimson Witch because she's so freaking annoying and doesn't really do anything for the story besides being a weird sort of Deus Ex Machina device /love interest person? Idk. I do my best to skip whenever she pops up becsuse she's Genuinely insufferable with her attitude and reaction to the MC's big reveal. Which sucks because her character could've been something amazing but the author can't write female characters well. :/
Plus, MC is a stupid mix of push over, OP,AND bland in arcs that coincidence with other characters (which I get to some extent but tf you mean MC is basically a fly on the wall when others interact with his universe???? HOW? WHY IT MAKES SO NO SENSE AS A CHARACTER WHO'S SUPPOSED TL BEBECOME A GUARDIAN OR WHATEVER-).
AND COOKING IS BARELY MENTIONED FOR SOME DAMN REASON DESPITE THE TITLE AND PREMISE -
There's more but it's a waste of time as is. Actually, chapter 30-80 could be condensed down to 10 tbh.
