Xinlu is still more compelling to me. he’s a fucked up, morally rotten mess who actually gets meaningful emotional development and layers. Ilay is a rapist with the emotional range of a loaded gun, and half his appeal is just being pretty and dangerous. At least Xinlu’s character has more going on beneath the psychotic bullshit.
