That is not that easy, Josh wasn't aware that Chase knew that he had a child.
It might would have calmed down Chase if he had directly told him, but what about Pete? Pete should be the most important here. So what Josh is doing, letting them meet first is the better way, so he can see how they reacted to each other if they get along and if Pete is save with Chase.
You could argue that they should have talked about Pete earlier, so the meeting would have happened earlier, but Chase is not the most mentally stable person and most of the time they weren't talking...since they jumped each other at every opportunity.... .
As right as you are THE AUTHOR DID/DOES NOT think THAT DEEP INTO IT, you can tell because Josh NEVER mentions that, Chase is the only person that comes to mind when it comes to telling him about Pete but you're 100% correct that's something Josh would consider if the author thought that hard
