「My Humble Practical Tips for Getting Back to Finding Good Works That You LOVE After Not Finding Anything Readable」
Summary first:
1- Don't check the rating.
2- Don't check the reviews.
3- Don't focus on the art.
4- Be ready for flaws.
5- Read slowly.
6- Try later.
7- Give second chances.
Essay second:
1- Before starting a candidate, don't check the rating.
You know that what thousands of people give 5/5 might not even be worth 0.1/5 for you.
So it is possible that what thousands of people give 0.1/5 could be 5/5 for you.
(I'm exaggerating the numbers intentionally. I know!). Rating should be the last thing you care about when you are desperate for a new work.
2- Don't check the reviews.
Explore the work through your own lens before you read a random negative review that makes you read the work while expecting the negatives at the back of your mind, causing you to not like it even after you read it yourself.
3- Don't focus on the art.
If you are really struggling to find something good, you will find yourself having no choice but to lower your standards. And if it happens that you like the story and decide to read it, after seeing its art for enough time, your eyes might become accustomed to it, and it might not give you the same level of discomfort.
4- Don't expect anything grand. Be ready for a little of disappointment.
Every work has flaws. When you anticipate only the good aspects then get the flaws shoved in your face in response, you get more disappointed than if you made yourself ready for them. And that will make you more likely to drop the work entirely.
5- Read slowly. Ponder each panel.
When you are racing against time so you could finish and still have time left for your responsibilities afterward,
you might not fully appreciate the atmosphere of the work, because you are missing a lot of tiny details that together make a difference.
So go finish your studying/work first. And if they take all your day... then that's it. Go to sleep. No reading today. Tell yourself that you will have nice dreams.
6- If you are trying everything and nothing works, try later.
Maybe the problem is not in what you are reading, but in your current state. Sleep deprivation–for example–could decrease your focus significantly, and numb your thinking, and make you moody. Which affects your reading experience negatively.
7- Give the works you dropped a "second round exam" if you haven't already done that.
I hate to say this because it feels so heavy to do, but it might work. Stay with the work just a little while longer. If it still doesn't pass your test, just let it drop itself. By doing this you are resting assured that you are not missing a gem, no matter how everyone likes it.
And lastly, I'm not saying you have to absolutely do these, or else you will fail.
No, I'm just suggesting them. And I hope you find this useful.

Thank you very much!)
What made you start reading? And what did you get out of it that made you stick with it?
(=・ω・=)
Does anyone get that feeling when they are reading a fictional work that it's the best work ever and that it's literally a masterpiece, but then it eventually ends and it becomes just good or even bad?
●︿●
What do you guys look for in works to evaluate them as good? What aspects do you look at when rating them, and how much out of 10 do you give each aspect?
(=・ω・=)
I read:
Bones and Petals,
Full Moon Alchemist,
Murderer Llewellyn's Enchanting Dinner Invitation,
and liked them.
I also like:
Codename Anastasia,
Addicted to Deathly Desire,
The 11th School Trip,
Winterfield,
and Moonlight.
I never read anything with any of:
The possibility of any type of pregnancy.
Reincarnation.
Slice of Life.
I read:
what has yaoi but still has a solid enough plot that if it wasn't yaoi there would still be a plot or something I like,
and doesn't have swearing in every speech bubble,
and has a good translation.
So, any recommendations?
I'm very picky so you'd better choose the best of the best. Thank you.
