I've always disliked the gender bender trope, including those where the mc is raised as the opposite gender, it annoys me for some reason

Well... I don't really have a problem with them.... I like the fact that they can't deny their feelings for that person even though they think they are the same gender.... But I can totally get it why some people don't like them (excuse my english, I am not a native speaker)

i like gender benders only when they make the character out to be pan or like them whatever gender they are, its just that most authors wont go down that route and use the troupe to trap a gay man into loving a woman out of the authors twisted fantasies, like any other troupe, genderbenders can be great when done right, but most of the time its used to queerbait

I actually never thought of gender benders that way.... I might be too naive... The latest gender bender I read was "Alien Idol". Their planet was under attack so a few of them managed to escape to earth... Now what make the story interesting is that in their planet they can be born as male, as female or as genderless .... Because they are genderless they get to choose if they become a Female or Male after a certain age or they can just remain as genderless. Even if they born as a Male they can identify as anything. Anyway, the main lead of the story is genderless, she identifies as a woman but on earth she has to live as a male.... This story gives a completely different vibe from other gender benders

that sounds like a great story, i would definitely read, stories like this I'm fine with because they arent meant to make a gay man love a woman because it can actually be good for the plot when done right and it isn't don't out of any maliciousness towards gay people
