I think the ML is innocent , 500years in the past, he refused the command to kill FL hence was controlled by Gabriel to kill the FL. i assume he killed himself after realising what he did.
But instead of dying in peace, Gabriel punish him by forcing him to reincarnate and suffer hellish pain each reincarnation to make a sword.
Why is coveting FL ( a god ) a sin anyway according to Gabriel’s standards? Love is free. Also he is really a bastard. He said its a sin so he punished the ML but the command was selfish in the first place. It was only to fulfil his selfish desire to bring back Uriel.
