Give me BL stories where the MC drops a toxic unrequited love. I’ve seen so many shoujo with that plot, but I’ve never seen it with BL - they always end up with the toxic M.

Yeah it's tough. I dunno why they always end up with them...... I guess because they need the darn regret arc? Those regret arcs are pretty popular and most authors do it for the hype of it. A lot of readers find it satisfying when they see the Toxic ML running after like a puppy asking MC for forgiveness blah blah

In Black Lotus it's an open ending on the webtoon so not sure if they still end up together. I wish they didn't because that ML didn't really know well what he did wrong and often made excuses. Well that's my opinion however with the way they did the art of the MC and ML as kids it seems like forgiveness is on it's way and they'll eventually work it out.

Don’t we all But if more weirdo support stories like Jinx, I’ll never get my green flag male lead. Also, Secondo Piatto is a great one where both the MC and ML drop their unrequited love which was only toxic towards the MC (he was an alcoholic & also toxic for himself not the relationship) to be with each other. It’s finish, but the R18 version is still being released.
Yes I love me a redemption arc, but let’s be fr, only a few stories do it right. Honestly it’s hard to create a satisfying story where the toxic male lead gets back with the MC. Personally, I’d prefer if they were just not…sexually harassing them and just played their feelings with the idea of dropping them. Only one I found was Mitsuketa Boku no Omega-sama, could’ve had a better redemption arc though. Crossing the line, Low Tide in Twilight are all better ones, but the sexual harassment deeply upsets me, but their character development are a lot more like able than most. Our Companionship was one that I really liked the most, no sexual harassment, just plain sad unrequited love.
Oh and by Our Companionship, I mean the only BL I found to give up on unrequited love and end up with a sweet green flag ML.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved the idea that more and more people are accepting LGBTQ media and the community itself, especially in a way that isn’t viewed as disgusting or offensive. However, I see more and more debates if yaoi is fetishizing gay men and how it’s seen as more “performative” to read it. Personally, I remember when newer concepts like BL Alex, Sign, and Window to Window showed more sexual tensions and more couples. But at the same time, I remember reading Japanese and Chinese mangas showing that two men being together wasn’t considered a “normal” concept. In fact, a lot of Chinese manhuas had it censored to the point where you were forced to read between the lines or heard confirmation somewhere else. The idea of sex, relationships, and even the hopes of being together was super foreign and THAT was the main plot. It wasn’t just two men having issues with each other, or falling in love with some other theme plot. It was them against society or their own mentality, and that was what made yaoi so appealing to me. To be heartbroken to see men that just loved each other be pulled apart because of discrimination, to the point of even considering suicide was just so tragic. Or seeing them choose not to be together after high school because of the pressures of having a “normal” family. I missed stories like that, stories that expressed how hateful people can be to others who don’t follow what is considered the social norm, and how harmful it can be to those people. Nothing is wrong with the current concepts, art styles, and progression of these comics. I just wished the storytelling felt as impactful as it did then when putting it in perspective with our current society. If anyone else can share their opinion about the change, or even newer readers can express if they felt the same impact I did back then, I’ll gladly read it. I just haven’t been able to share this with another person, since everyone I know started reading recently…
