As much as i see everyone defending Tei, I gotta defend Shuraka too. Tei is grown. A grown ass man that should know how to communicate his feelings instead of ruminating and making assumptions just because Shuraka doesn't wish to talk about issues that are personal to him.
They both at fault. But Tei saw exactly how Shuraka's home was before they separated. I just need them to actually talk instead of throwing the blame on each other.
Shuraka is 22-24 years old. A grown ass man as well.
Tei directly asked Shuraka about the concubines. Why does everyone blaming Tei ignore this? Shuraka didn't answer directly.
Shuraka took a foreign bride to a foreign country, told him that he cannot disobey him now that he's in a foreign country, is literally a semi-deity in his country while Tei is of much lower status, didn't explain about his culture or customs or that he has a harem, has still not fully explained why he left Tei only for 12 years while Tei was the laughingstock of the Leracal court.
Im not saying either of them are right. Dont get me wrong.
However if we are saying Shuraka is estimated around his early 20s, that means Tei is in his early 30s-late 30s. Within any of that time, he could of done any research about his husband's nation. Literally any. He's also not some unknown maiden. He knows how royalty works, he knows how marriage works. He's not stupid. He is the elder here with much more social experience then Shuraka (who was married as a child may I remind you.)
Tei is just a stupid and Shuraka is being.
Reminder to our lovely western reader, when a stories is based on another cultural, you cannot apply your western ideologies to it. Concubines have been an important part of eastern Asian culture for a long time. Most of the time Concubines are not placed in for love. It is for political power and strength and often, they are placed in by the crowns advisors rather then the actual sultans/emperor.
It's okay to feel a bit unsure, but using terms such as "cheating" when, culturally this isnt seen as cheating because it is normal (something even Tei was aware of by the old ruler).
Be mindful and open to other cultures and eno9y the story!! <33
Nothing was said about your culture. If you had a basic level of intelligence, you'd be able to understand that I said you just cant push your culture onto a story about someone else's culture. The same rule would apply to us if it was an English or American story.
But if you REALLY want to go into culture, let's talk about how your entire "american" culture isn't even your own. How your "American culture" actively looks to destory the NATIVE American culture and its people. Let's also talk about how your "culture" only seems to accept the white, English speaking while actively feeding off the oppressed countries within it's reach.
So if anyone is truly disrespecting "American" culture, perhaps you should look at home. Because thats where your issue has started.

10/10. Plot was good and told well, no extremely unnecessary misunderstandings, UKE and SEME were both pretty bloody straight forward with each other. Probably the best Communication I've seen in a couple in a while.
AND THEY BOTH FREAKKYYYYYYY.
Defo adding this to my reread list.
