who is ten why was he the demon and who is mark why was he the archangel??? did they switch or summ??

    User3726594 December 29, 2025 12:22 pm

yes, the one that we see rn is them but like, after being reborn(?) again

    Marzipan January 15, 2026 5:47 pm

That was their original roles, they destroyed purgatory and they were forced to swap roles essentially for 100 years as punishment.

    w_iju January 26, 2026 2:18 pm

^ A note on the comment above: after destroying purgatory, they were supposed to be simply "purified", that is, essentially reset – losing their memories and being sent back to being low-ranking, to work their way up to their former high positions.

Instead, however, Mark (who was an archangel) jumped in front of Ten (who was the chief of hell) into the water/goo/whatever that was meant for Ten, and would therefore purify him into a normal, low-ranking DEMON. Mark does this because, while they had been imprisoned, Mark and Ten had joked about how "the punishment for an angel should be doing bad things, while the punishment for a demon would be doing good things." He wanted Ten to be a good guy, and kind of "sacrificed" himself with the burden(?) of being a demon so that Ten could be the angel instead.

This pissed of Ten, and he tried to go after Mark, but heaven (the ones overseeing this whole operation) couldn't have the BOTH of them be reborn as demons... they had a balance to maintain. So, they kind of just accepted the fact they'd have to use Ten as an angel, and pushed him to be angel purification thing instead. But as he was being dragged to be purified, Ten made himself troublesome, which annoyed heaven and made them "punish" him with 100 years in the purification goo – meanwhile Mark would be in and out pretty quickly.

That's why when we begin the manga Ten is said to be a new angel while Mark is already a Duke of hell – he's been here for 100 years already, during which Ten was submerged in the purification water and just recently came out.

Therefore, the SWITCH was an accident. They were just supposed to lose their memories and begin as a fresh demon and angel – and, one day, assume their previous roles of chief of hell and archangel. Since the destroying of purgatory had been a result of a personal conflict between the two, this was meant avoid having them clash again in the future (since they wouldn't remember eachother).

read on X how the author of shutline apparently said flashlight plagiarized shutline and they were being rlly mad abt it. what r u guys opinion

    Yomamamygf July 24, 2025 6:42 am

kinda read both of them but a while apart. I did not notice that at all, mostly bc these troupes are reused sm. If the author noticed alot of realy similar details or anything jut plain copied and pasted I would be mad too.

    Nobody July 24, 2025 6:47 am

I haven’t really read Flashlight, but I’ve seen people recommending it as being similar to Shutline, nitbinwondernif this plagarism accusation is about panels and poses and not the story?

Apparently it's the vibe that's similar. The fans who were saying they're similar couldn't exactly pinpoint what's the same about the two stories. But having read both of them, I really don't know where the supposed similarities are. They just both use some popular BL tropes (blond x dark hair, masculine seme & uke), but apart from that the story's plot, art, theme and message aren't similar at all.

I heard the author of Flashlight was dealing with this ever since her manhwa started. Even had to change her artstyle over it. It also sucks for her because she's a considerably smaller author than kyou.

    Gojopubichair July 24, 2025 7:09 am

I read both and honestly I just feel like the accusations is such a reach. I never once thought of shutline while reading flashlights and like yangma (author of flashlight) was very willing to communicate and find a common ground between them because in the statement yangma said that kyou said to change the art style cus kyou said it seem like yangma plagiarized off her work because the atmosphere is similar. Yangma pretty much try their best to cater to that but they couldn't do it immediately because they already made 20 chapters but after that they try their best to change their art style and manuscript to cater to their senior who is accusing them of plagiarism. And like kyou don't even have the evidence to show it. It just feel like kyou publicly make that statement of accusations so her fanbase can try to dig out something that are similar so she can use against yangma.

    Ilikesteak July 24, 2025 7:36 am

I havent read Shutline because I dislike the artstyle, and loved Flashlights artstyle, so that whole accustation makes no sense to me. idk plot wise, tho i rly dont see how they would be similar that way either. personally I think the Shutline's author is js tweakin rn

    Totoki July 24, 2025 8:04 am

as I said on forum the other day, it was very shitty of Kyou to say "I'll leave the judgement to the readers" when they in fact, didn't leave the judgement to the readers ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ They literally bullied Yangma, a rookie artist, for over a year - blocking on social media, sniping, groundless accusations, putting company pressure, sending their readers to harass etc. idrk what to call this type of behaviour lmao but i don't think i can respect kyou after all this. I'm kind of glad they're being called out and getting dragged, especially by the korean readers after posting that bullshit (very much deserved)

That’s crazy. It’s hard to change your art style, but besides that, Shutline has a bit of an unconventional look. Personally, I find the characters attractive, but I know a lot of people don’t. Whereas I think Flashlight has a more “mainstream” or conventional art style

I think Jake and shin are both attractive and it kinda sadden me seeing people insulting kyou art styles from time to time cus our Korean Eminem is not ugly but the accusations is definitely a reach! Without evidence and accusing it base off similar things that 10000+ bl has in the manhwa as plagiarism is very much career ending and it also feel very ill intentions.
