My memory is not very good since it’s been a while. But as I said there was a whole arch. Where Ian was struggling financially because of the Great Depression. He had to work late for months, And His insecurities are showing again. Where he think if he can’t provide Madeline everything she wants he is useless.
There is also an arch with Madeleine where she meets the brother and father of her John her burned patient.

Like there’s just something about this whole thing about them they were already married they had a kid and the whole life and then they just divorced, but they are clearly very much still in love.
