Saw a really introspective comment left on the Korean version of this episode that I wanted to share it here:
Emotional abuse is definitely worse than physical abuse because not only the characters but even the commenters, who are fully aware of Jahyeok's situation, do not see him as needing help; they view it simply as a personal problem. They are both in the same situation of being abused and unable to carry on with daily life due to their parents, yet it feels like no one sees this as the result of abuse. While personal circumstances cannot be an excuse for wrongdoing, the same was true for Suji, yet there were quite a few people who defended her; in Jahyeok's case, however, it is treated solely as a personality issue. When he refused to exercise, he didn't say he didn't want to do it but asked if he could do something else. This shows that he isn't hiding his refusal; rather, he has been rejected hundreds of times and learned that it is meaningless. In that situation, there is nothing a child can do once the parents make a decision. He might have been able to speak to Jiyu, but the only form of communication Jahyeok has ever practiced and learned is listening and following unilaterally, so that is essentially the only way he knows how to communicate. In fact, considering he has lived surrounded by such people his whole life, the fact that he doesn't usually show it and recognizes the problem so quickly actually means he is growing up well
This story subverts so many tropes I’m so confused how I feel. It presents the typical story : ‘evil’ illegitimate child who terrorises the true blood ‘heroine’ trope, but we are given the illegitimate’s MC POV and you can’t help but understand and pity them, but at the same time you feel conflicted cos she genuinely does want to cause harm to what we typically considering a heroine as Alya was poisoned in most webtoons we’d be rooting for characters such as Alya and her romance with “the cold duke” and even love the “over protective brother trope”. But put in Thalia’s shoes we end up wanting to root for Her and Vakna and having the pov of the victim of the over protective brother action you can’t help but dislike him for the harm he causes. Vakna is engaged with Alya and how many of us reads a story and get upset at the emotional affair or when the “fiancé” loves somebody else, but at the same time seeing their backstory you can’t help “rooting” for them. Ahhh the author did such an amazing job! Especially considering her two other series the heroines are very similar to Alya but here we have the other perspective and it’s written in such a complex and interesting way! Can’t wait to see how this ties to under the oak tree world as it’s a prequel. I think Max is related to Thalia’s bloodline hmm.
I want to expand on this bc I love analysing stories. The author could have done the typical story trope as the setting for Alya had everything: poor dead mother, evil mistress, true blood, ‘evil’ half sister, childhood friend duke, difficult relationship with father etc etc but by having the story through Thalia’s pov it becomes more interesting and complex.
How many read these types of stories & dislike the “illegitimate” child the moment they’re introduced into the story, often times bc they’re hostile towards the FL? The only justification of hating characters such as Alya would be when they’re portrayed as a white lotus against our MC, but the problem is she truly is a victim (so far i don’t read the novel) that in a way it feels confusing cos it’s going “against” the principles we’ve been indoctrinated by most stories.
Reading this idk how to feel as these characters are all understandable in their own way, I understand why Alya hates her stepmother and dislikes Thalia, I understand why Thalia is violent, heck I understand why Gareth feels the way he does (tho my complaint is he’s too villainous it’s like damn I get it he’s bad) etc etc .
My emotions are all in conflict ! A part of me pity the treatment Thalia received but another part of me dislikes her violent actions ahhhh ! I read some spoilers and I’m conflicted with the ML but that’s also just makes it more “human” ahhh . To conclude it really does make you reflect and look into the characters more in other series and how our emotions will get manipulated by the narrative, having the “evil” illegitimate CHILD most of the time be so stupid or comedically evil , or how ppl treat the female characters depending on their closeness to the FL etc etc
I hear a novel is being released so I do hope they don’t try to make Ogami and Noren to end up together, though I have a sneaky suspicion the Japanese audience would eat that up. Is it just me who wanted Ogami and Eri to make up? Like finding his backstory when she got kidnapped and he went crazy to save her damn I feel like we were ROBBED if a good romance. I could tell initially the family aspect was going to be a focus after Ogami made food the first time in home economics and his ex wife and daughter praised it, but then overtime this whole aspect was discarded which really irked me bc I feel like his daughter should have been more focused instead of Noren, Jesus it felt like he cared for Noren more then his own daughter ?? Also Shin x Noren would have made more sense (if he fixes up his mummy issues), cos the open ending is just so uncomfortable I feel like Noren would wait to see Ogami again— speaking of Shin wtf happens now? So he stopped being an assassin and stayed back in the school? What’s with his past? Omg eiji and his brother ! Was that issue ever sorted out? They were such forgotten characters too and I feel so bad for the brother. Kakeru really up and vanished which is a shame ahhhh there’s so much questions I’m so annoyed I stayed up to read this.
If this is all a ploy to change ML I’m going to get so annoyed. But ignoring that issue, this trope has been beaten to death that I’m honestly surprised it’s still happening. The “I lied about the truth to protect you” trope and the “I go aboard (specifically America) for idk how long don’t wait for me” trope. Like I went on naver to read the comments and the fans are PISSSSSSED. They demand to change male leaders (which I hope the author won’t just up and change the original love interest) but yh, they’re all sick of this too Jesus this plot is so stupid when you take a step back and think about it ahhh
Bruh true beauty, operation true love, heck even uruwashi no yoi no tsuki AND NOW THIS!?! What’s with Asian stories and having their ML who happened to be rich af be shipped to America to study and break up / ghost their gf ??? im SICK of this trope like why America heck why not Japan? China? England!? WHY ALWAYS AMERICA !? and let’s be real, these RICH kids would NAWT be going to some public school in their home country only to drop out and go to some American university at most they’d be private school or international, heck already living in said country I’m so tired of this nonsense. Logistically His parents would be trying to get him into Yonsei or even SNU unless his ass is going into Harvard I don’t want to hear it.
I’m sorry, but I’m kinda frustrated with new artist hired for this series. The drop in quality is significant that reading this story isn’t enjoyable. This story was highly enjoyable both in terms of the plot AND artwork, and while I acknowledge that the original artist is sick, I’d rather we wait till they’re in better health or they hired somebody more skilled. I mean no insult to the replacement artist (tho they won’t even see this comment) but down to the composition and anatomy it’s clear there’s been a significant drop that it’s ruining the experience. The company KNOWS this is a popular series, so I would have expected them to invest in more resource for this story. I’m just annoyed rn bc this was a series I was highly excited for and waited patiently, only to end up extremely disappointed. The appeal of this story was highly bc of the expressions and art, and now it’s so flat… imagine the great estate developer without any of Lloyd’s iconic faces or the art.
Edit; I found the story board artist account on X and their art is quite skilled + would have been a good replacement for the previous artist, so it’s just frustrating how unimportant this webtoon is to the company and artist from the difference in quality ahhh (This is the storyboard artist and I’m aware they’re not the MAIN artist but like are you guys not a team??) anyways their account is @ Oguraugo on X if ur curious
The tragedy of this pairing is that both parties feelings are not their own. Both of them were shot with an arrow to manipulate their emotions, Apollo does not truly love her as he is forced to, while same goes to Daphne as she does not truly hate him (hence the conflicting emotions). I feel sorry for them, especially Daphne bc at the end of the day this is just a game to the gods, her feelings towards Apollo in general did not matter, so long as Apollo got the punishment from Aphrodite.

I don’t have fast pass for Korean webtoon, but from the cover of chapter 155 I think the Jaehyeok might be featured (probably seeing Jayu’s number no longer in service and he looked heavily depressed). But yeah, everytime I check the comments on the free chapters OOMPH the Koreans are MAD at jaehyeok and don’t even want to see him. any mention of him gets downvoted
