As much as I love the smut this chapter, I’m trying to figure out if that stalker Ryu Jaehee that Jeong Cheol saved twice is the indirect reason Ji Min-young told his father that Cheol’s gay. Min-young is a tactician. He always has a plan. I thought at first he did it because he wanted to find a way to get Cheol to runaway to him, while getting him out of his toxic home situation, but then the author introduced this Jaehee.
I’m going to read it again, but currently Minyeong and Cheol are 36 years old. They met when they were seventeen and dated until they were 22. That is when Minyeong told Choel’s father that he is gay. When confronted Choel ran away and didn’t speak to his family for approx four years until he got married, I say four years because Cheol said running away from Minyeong for fourteen years and Choel was married for ten. The reason why I’d say Minyeong is tactician is because instead of apologizing, he made a fifteen year plan and only introduced himself 14 years within that plan. He wants to hurt everyone that hurt Choel. Minyeong said he won’t make the same mistake again, hence why I think Minyeong made a mistake with one of his plans. In one of Choel’s memories, he says, “Minyeong wouldn’t lie about that” or something similar. Minyeong doesn’t change. He’s obsessed with Choel and wants to hurt anyone that hurts him except for himself. Jaehee knew or at least insinuated that he knew about Minyeong and Choel and he’s Choel’s stalker, I feel like there’s a connection, but I’m not sure,
Correction: He said, Minyeong’s lying. Not that he wouldn’t lie about that. Jaehee could have been the catalyst to make the obsessive power bottom, Minyeong do something drastic in hopes of trying to save Choel. That’s been one of his main objectives throughout this story. A true manipulative tactic is to isolate someone so they’re entirely yours and dependent on you,
Ooooo wait you're so big brained, I never thought of that! It does seem really weird and out of character for Minyoung to out Cheol to his father who he knows is abusive. I'm sure he also had to have known the Cheol wouldn't be okay with it. Like you said, Minyoung's whole mission is to keep Cheol on his side and solely depending on him.
I totally get what you're saying. Something must've went wrong and Jaehee seems like a total wildcard since we don't know his intentions or anything.
Thanks for indulging me and sharing your theory!
So, I tend to like darker stuff. One of favorite genres is psychological horror like Killing Stalking (I don’t think it was a BL). However, with the hatred towards Joo Jaekyung from Jinx. Now I’m curious, who do you think is a red flag vs a black flag? Jinx to me is similar to Painter of the Night in terms of their tops.
Okay. This seems reasonable. I see a lot of ppl calling Jaekyung a black flag.
I wonder why ppl disliked this question. Is it because I said JaeKyung and Seungho are similar? They both treated their partners horribly even though it was a transaction (one was a choice and the other wasn’t), things started to change between chapters 65-75, they both have childhood trauma and shitty dads.
Or it bc I said Killing Stalking is not a BL? I mean it could be the question itself. I mean green flags are cute and all, but there’s a reason why the red flags BL are more popular.
i honestly think jaekyung is tameable compared to zhenya. guy crazy as fuck, but considered his line of work i kind of get why he's a black flag.
for me though, a red flag is when the character was horrible with his partner but acceptable with redemption arc (like taeju, seungho and probably jk near future we'll see). and black flag is when you feel there's no point of them being together even with redemption arc– like the character giving out more trauma than loves.
I knew from previous chapters that Cheol’s dad’s inferiority complex is the reason why he treats Cheol like shit. Cheol and his uncle look alike and they’re both smart. At first, I’d thought Cheol has internalized homophobia, but I think the reason why he keeps denying he’s gay or maybe bi (personally I think he’s gay) is because he’s genuinely scared of his father and can’t come to terms with his sexuality. It’s like it would be another reason why his father doesn’t love him back. Throughout Cheol’s entire life, he tried to earn his father’s approval. He wants to be the top student to please his dad. The last thing most ppl in his situation wants to do is admit, “Oh yeah I’m gay.” He knew his father wasn’t going to react well. The first thing he did after his father found out is that is get into a relationship with a woman and marry her even though I don’t think he was in love with her.
It was bound to come out though because his brother was desperate to go study abroad and Minyoung wants him to himself. There was already some foreshadowing last chapter. Unpopular opinion but I’m liking the unpacking of the past. Cheol has every right to be angry. Every person he loved played in his face including Minyoung. If anything, I think Minyoung hurt Cheol the most because he was supposed to be his safe space.
Disclaimer: Just in case, being gay does not mean you should be loved less than everyone else. Cheol’s dad is a homophobic asshole with an inferiority complex towards his brother and unhealed trauma. The exact same with Cheol’s brother.
Cheol put so much effort into being a good son, getting good grades, never getting into trouble, always being obedient, etc. It's ironic that these qualities made his father hate him more. It seems that the more the younger son struggles, the more the father identifies with him and coddles him. I'm guessing we're going to see that the grandfather was overly strict with the sons and compared them cconstantly.
I suspected that Minyoung outing Cheol was just another manipulation tactic. I'm interested to see how it played out. Also, every time we see the uncle in the flashbacks I can't help but be disappointed. Cheol is so obvious about wanting to be with him as his son. It's really disappointing to see how much the uncle knew and didn't interfere.
I completely agree. The thing with the uncle is that he always assumes that his brother stops hitting Cheol, but even if he knows he’s not going to do anything about it. I’m assuming because of his own guilt and not wanting to hurt his brother. It reminds me of that conversation Minyoung and Cheol’s uncle had after Minyoung beat up Cheol’s father.
Also, I don’t think realistically he could just take Cheol in. He would need to report his brother and show evidence that Cheol is getting abused. Remember from the outside Cheol lives with two parents in a house. He looks clean, a good kid, and gets great grades.
I feel like it's going to turn out that the uncle didn't even try to get Cheol out of that house. I think this family values their reputation more than anything else and even such an accusation would shame the family. I think it's going to turn out that the grandfather blocked the uncle from doing anything and the uncle went along with it out of guilt towards his brother.
