sorry but eugene’s personality traits are just seeking revenge (and obviously that amounted to nothing) and being in love with the MC, he’s too boring to be the ML so i’m glad it ended up this way. the romance between the MC and the emperor just needs to be more developed, they haven’t even kissed…
