The problem with plots like this is the fact the first part relies on invoking emotion from the readers, so the author will always make the abuse horrible and draw so much attention towards the fear the MC feels. But then you have to redeem the ML and the only way to do that is trauma dump and gaslight the readers into thinking it wasn't as bad as it was.
Even then, if you do manage to redeem the ML in the eyes of the readers, it still won't qualify the two characters getting back together as the MC has gone through a load of emotional and physical trauma. But we all know they're getting back together :)

I think it really shows the lack of care the older brother has for the mc, even in the past life. If the vet guy didn't push the mc out of the way when he saw the car coming, the older brother would've killed his own family out of anger and pride. Kinda fucked up ╮(￣▽￣)╭
I can count the amount of good BDSM stories on one hand at this point. It annoys me that authors clearly use it as a gimmick to show how 'tough' and 'violent' their tops are and I'm actually sick of it.
This is one of the few times an author has actually used a safe word as well and even then they didn't follow it properly, as if you have to meet some hidden condition for a safe word to be counted as valid.
If you're going to use something that has clearly established rules, then follow those rules please. Rather than adding fire to the concept that BDSM is just used to abuse people.

I read fucked up stuff, I know its fucked up and acknowledge that, so she can at least do the same. If you want to write that type of story, sure go for it, just don't be surprised when readers criticise your lack of character development and planning.
I already fully know that she's going to add a redepetion arc which probably still wont acknowledge the full impact boxer guy's (forgot his name) actions had on Dan. She'll probably skim over it and he'll save Dan from some other guy, say sorry not sorry and bam they're in love. I hope it doesn't go that way and that she actually puts effort into it.
Yeah I don't have much faith in her ability to have a cohesive transition to the next arc. I'm absolutely only here because I'm waiting to read the redemption arc. I refuse to read this until I know for sure he stops being an asshole.
