I know people have qualms about it, I understand it I also root for Lutin better and it's clear her young age sways her unsure fully between the choice BUT...
GOOOOOD FUCKING GOD I FUCKING LOVE MARIELLE. she's so fucking cute, her personality is actual a flaw in certain situations, she's beloved and it makes sense but she's still treated substandard by high society despite her connections and it's not even just the sense.. she's spiritually a Jane Austen character and I have a weak fucking spot for Jane Austen so her, the three blossoms of the inns, Lady Aurelia, Natalie the Maid, the fucking mothers? Ezra, The princesses all had such good distinct characters and this is a book for girls and I mean that in the best fucking way. There's a heart to the genre it's settling in, there's a heart in how they portray even the tropes of it, there's love here in this craft and it's not revolutionary, it's not the next Mona Lisa but god I don't mind having a guilty pleasure because a painting I whole heartedly love in my favourite cafe is just as wonderful as a masterpiece in the Louvre.
Reasons why people should lock in for this:
1. It's fun, the humour might not be for everyone but it reminds me of a lighter more shoujo-based Gintama and early Sailor Moon. Our lead is charming, hilarious and while it isn't really a deep portrayal meaning her flaws are one to none and serves as a way to push the plot, She's still an amazing partner to experience the journey on.
2. The plot is a lot more anthological, It is true that we have an overarching question. (The Will, The Vandermeer, The Traitors) Those aren't the main focus for like majority of the first season which might be a make it or break it for other people, personally I think they did well to grow their dynamic over these arcs so even if the main plot isn't pushing forward as fast as it could, the characters and their relationship does.
3. MC has the best fucking faces in anything I read on this genre, Her laughing face is top tier and reminds me of Lovely Complex with Risa and I adore Risa so it's obvious I'd love this MC so much.
4. ML isn't broody, misunderstood or emotionally stunted. He apologises, understands what he does wrongs and makes amends for it, banters, has an identity that isn't revolved around MC, an actual male lead that has some sense to him. His story while a bit brushed on too quick for this season still feel like it could have a potential to really pull him to a really good level but as of now he's still great. If you like that kind of ML, this one's for you.
4. It's fun, have some fun! Take a break and sit back, the humor might not be for everyone but it's a pretty light-hearted experience, it's easy to root for the leads considering everyone else is cartoonist evil, it's not here to reinvent but it is here to thoroughly and all heartedly entertain. So, if you want some time for yourself, get some laughs in and have a snack inbetween the chapters without having to tweak? This one's great.

I know we're supposed to root for MC because woooo, he's finally getting a backbone and shit like that but honestly I think he's too caught up with his own feelings and his need to "move on" that he's not even capable of seeing that he's hurting the one person he's proclaiming to care about.
While I understand that he's making boundaries because MLs actions ARE unhealthy and it is actually a good thing for him to get help, I also understand that ML needs this space to actually grow I just wish it wasn't at the cost of putting the MC in a pedestal just because he's in a position where his feelings and his desire to want more with ML is keeping him in a bubble.
That said, He understands he's not the right person to handle that kind of attachment or anxiety and I respect that because most of the time leads are expected to carry that together because that's "romance" when in reality it takes an incredible amount of patience and understanding to even keep a relationship with some of the MLs that pop up in this genre despite the perks they inhibit. So while, MC is callous, hurtful and is stuck on his feelings, I do also think he's level headed and knows ML enough that while his actions may be petty they come from a place of understanding that he's not equipped at this time and emotion wise to shoulder ML.
I need a body to just fall out from the sky idc whose it is just need a shock or a jolt so these people can get a grip cause y the fuck would you name this blue name pressure and not have the pressure even be on the blue haired character but on US I don't see a name on my damn skin LMAOOOOO I'm gonna need them to huddle up and get a grip I'm actually crying what the fuck are they doing
A few more chapters and we're getting the season finale LSMSODMSKENE I FEEL IT IN MY BONES I KNOW ITS COMING...
Stories like this where they make omegas so highly dependent to the point that it factors into their agency and health makes me incredibly sad, I know it's not the point of the story but MC having half of his agency on this story undermined because he's always affected by physiological shit just makes me feel awful for him like I don't really care if it's because there's hidden feelings or attraction to it because that's a cop out. MC since the story started has not done anything that he wanted, when he wants to actual set boundaries his body is magically acting up from some nightmare body scenario.
If I have to be so dependent and easily affected biologically by someone by their mere presence I'd honestly just kill myself and I'm being serious here that shit sounds so traumatic, having no control of your body's wants and needs, not being on your clear mind 24/7 at your own detriment both physically and mentally and always needing someone else's "pheromones" is such a shitty scenario to be in that I honestly can't even get mad at how this story is portraying him, I have nothing but pity for the way this character is being treated by the story.

this was really so cute and fun and a chill read until we got to MC with the "I don't like guys just ML I'm actually disgusted thinking about me with other men trope" and I suddenly remember that they don't actually like gay people over there and that two attractive well-prospective men falling for each other is just a novelty to be enjoyed rather than an actual human experience
Amakasu got out of the stairways faster than all of them, I do not understand why she's suddenly off the panel and back to where they started girl got left behind for the sake of getting titties out and be scary.. #JusticeForAmakasu
god this author is always so peak, I can't wait for their next series this and playtime with hakdo really are just the right flavor of actually hot and sexy smexy scenes, characters are charming and god I love it

There is something to appreciate about the way this genre has manufactured and capitalized on characters as labels. If you need a recommendation you can simplify it into two words, #AdjectiveBottom and #AdjectiveTop. I have for the longest time found series that I enjoyed and loved in this way and is by no means bad nor an indication of quality.. sorta until it borders into caricatures.
To simplify what I'm getting at if it isn't obvious yet. Happy Together breaks that ceiling, Will you label Jaeyoung as #QuietBottom or will you label Seungmin as #CoolTop? Many have added nuance to characters they've written throughout my time with this genre but none come close to feeling like real actual tangible people. Jaeyoung isn't defined by his role in the relationship and not does Seungmin. They're defined by the actions taken upon them and actions they're taking for the betterment of the other.
We see them joke around, function sexually like actual couples and most of all.. they are intimate in ways NO OTHER COUPLES I've seen have been. There's been dialogues yes, a showcase of profound change after being an asshole but no other series makes it explicitly clear that these people care about one another beyond their attraction.
Seungmin and Jaeyoung feels like they function OUTSIDE of their relationship as a couple, It's a huge plot glue don't get me wrong but they're not centered or defined by it like most other series are, Their relationship is a portion of the things that make who they are and the actions and decision they make. Jaeyoung isn't going into this because he's feeling things for Seungmin, He's doing it because he genuinely loves performing and Seungmin isn't working against Jaeyoung's autonomy with his wishes and plans.
This is only the surface, I can go on and on about how stellar the pacing has been for a weekly release, There's a rhythm to it that feels almost cinematic and not just panel-y and that takes incredible precision. The writing is phenomenal and each side characters feel just as alive as the leads. It's a small thing but when most of what you read here feels like the same thing in a different coat, Happy Together breaks boundaries and shows the quality we could get from serious artistic finesse.
You root for these characters not because the plot tells you to but because there's risks involved and there's a possibility of a setback that can come from an interaction with the overarching antagonist and you will not get that on any other series because most of the time.. what you read in BL? The ML is as much the villain until the story needs him to become the lover instead.
