I think it’s ok to like Fake while also acknowledging police brutality. Especially for the 90s, it’s far from the most problematic detective/cop story I’ve seen. Though that’s not a very high bar. Spoilers—like I think it’s v good that Dee and Ryo go out of their way to stop each other from pulling their guns on people that have really hurt/killed people they love. There’s a lot of other issues that the manga brings up and doesn’t ignore(racism, bi/homophobia, “good/bad” cops, and like you said...Ryo’s mental health? lmao), but still need to be presented in more depth. + the occasional randomly drawing guns, punching (albeit with no intention to kill and guilty suspects) and certain jokes are something to consider. Fake will always be one of my favorite bl mangas of all time, I love the story and characters too much, but I’ve also become more critical since the first time I read it. Yikes this was really long sorry~~~

No prob no prob I consider myself really accepting of all kinds of BLs Lately, a lot of BLs don't address the common things more in western settings, perhaps because ppl are more sensitive to those things. But homophobic, sexist, racist comments are still common!
Oh yeah for sure. These things are still as real as they were then so more nuance on the topics is always nice. I guess I try to be open too, I also constantly read stuff that doesn’t talk about anything too deep or triggering to stay sane lol
Dee is so sweet and charming. He's willing to wait until Ryo is ready. He's not perfect, but someone like him is rare when it comes to MM relationships. A precious gem.

I usually don't like older bl mamga very much but damn this is one of best manga i ever read it has such compelling and layerd characters , such a good plot with drama which is intriguing , and a couple that radiate so much sexual tention and chemistry that i can almost feel it physically! The seme and uke are so good to gether it drives me crazy and i'm really glad when they finaly had sex it felt so good and owned not random and rushed! This is seriously a perfect bl manga! Love it!
