What do y'all think about stories where the author is writing a story about your culture/religion/country/etc when they also don't belong to it? Do you mostly look past it? Cringe? Do you like an outsider POV? Do you laugh at it? Is there anything that makes you love or hate a story from an author who is an outsider?

The characters. I’m a character driven reader, so I don’t care about genre as much as I care about what the characters are doing. They could be awful, but they need to be interesting (at least to me).   reply

I agree, Characters have to have understandable motives. Nothing is better than being able to agree or disagree with a character, it makes them seem more human. I also agree on pacing, it kills me how a lot of the things I read don't use their formats to effectively convey appropriate emotional timing or even comedic timing.
